Hey everyone. Sorry its been so long since i last wrote but i've been really busy. Hopefully i'll have time over the next couple of days to respond to everyones messages so if you wrote me an e-mail and i haven't replied you should hear from me over the next couple of days.
So anyway last thing i wrote was just before i left for Edinburgh. I left on Monday, and caught my plane which flew from Stansted airport into Edinburgh. Anyway this hostel was much, much busier than the Cambridge hostel and it was really easy to make friends with lots of people. That night i joined in the trivia game. Unfortunately my luck was no better at this trivia than the trivia we did in Aus and we came third last. Although i was able to recognise Jada Pinkett Smith by her eyes alone and managed to guess that the film that both Kevin Spacey and Tom Cruise were in was Austin Powers 3: Goldmember. The next day i started my job hunt by trailing around the streets of Edinburgh applying in various pubs and shops. So pretty much i spent most of the day of Tuesday though to
Friday looking for jobs either on the net or by dropping in resumes but with no luck so far. I really hate job hunting so the days have not been as fun as i would like. But i've had lots of fun at the nights hanging out with various people, sometimes spending the night at the pub attached to the hostel and other times watching movies with the other travellers. On thursday night a bunch of people had a party in the common room because they were trying to stay awake until 4am to catch their bus. That was a really fun night where I met a lot of people, and got to know others better. They Dutch travellers had this great drinking song where someone would just kinda yodel and then they would all burst into a rousing rendition of their song. And they were big on the sing along songs, the best being when the entire room sang along to Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger. On friday night i went to see a play with an American and a Brit (I know it sounds like a bad joke - all we missed was an Irishman, but
they came the next night). They play was free because it was a preview performance and we had to queue for several hours in order to get tickets. It had a great first act which was really funny, but the second act tried to become profound and we just left the cinema saying, "What the hell happened at the end?!?"
On Saturday (yesterday) i gave the job search a rest and climbed Arthur's Seat. It didn't take too long to get to the top and the view of Edinburgh was really impressive. However the wind was really powerful and at times it was pushing me backwards down the mountain which made it tough climbing.
Last night was of course St. Paddy's day. Unlike most people i didn't have any alcohol until late in the afternoon but the pubs were packed from about 11am. It was a really good night, although i have to confess that i only had one pint of Guinness because it isn't really my tastes. I drank Coronas because they were the cheap drink (i never thought i would see the day when coronas would be cheaper than VB!!). I also had a couple of weird cocktail
things that this Irish girl convinced me to drink and a yagermeister shot (which was foul - definately steer clear of them!!). But i didn't really get very drunk because i was one of the few people who also ate. Overall it was a really fun night, although i think a few people must have suffered for their booze as the reception area stank like vomit the next morning. So anyway thats me all caught up. Haven't done much today, noticed that people starting drinking at 11am again this morning. I'll hopefully catch up on my e-mail list today and tomorrow. Having lots of fun and not stressed about travelling alone anymore but would love to find a job and be able to stop searching. Currently booked in here till Thursday by which time if i don't have a job i'm gonna have to re-evaluate my plans.
Talk to you soon
Alex

wow...sounds like you're having a great time...I didn't have anything to drink St. Paddy's. I actually didn't want to, since I was depressed and all. I haven't had much to drink lately at all, which is in stark contrast to you! I know you'l find a job soon. I mean, honestly? Who would turn you down??? And speaking of which, did you get my other post about the world's oldest proffession? I don't wanna push you into it, but just know that the option is open for you...
