Phukets slut capital, patong... In a sleazy barSo yet another boat trip from Ko lanta via Phi Phi and onto Phuket. Arranged a taxi to Karon beach straight away to a hostel where we wanted to stay. However got a rude awakening and instant dislike to Phuket when the taxi stopped at a travel agent telling us we had to book something there cos everything was full in Karon beach and we wouldnt find a place if we tried ourselves. So reluctantly we booked (and cos we were feeling lazy and tired from journey). Ended up payin 1400baht (28euro) for a 'top-class' hotel which was pretty lame we realised upon arrival... To make things worse, the place we wanted to stay in was just across the road and we soon found they had plenty of much nicer rooms available at only 595 baht (12euro). Anyway tried calling travel agency and ended up egtting a tuk tuk back there to no real luck, they bullshited us and basically told us they had our money so fuck off. We did manage to cancel our booking for last night but still ended up paying for 2 nights there. We stayed there 1 night then headed over to our own nice hostel

Anyway moral of the story is that they will rob you blind in Phuket for absolutely everything, tuk tuks, taxis, street sellers, hotels, its crazy. SO many tourists here that they just dont care. Not easy to get by here on a tight budget!!
Anyway after that things got much better and our memories of Phuket will not all be bad and hate filled now.... Headed to Patong first night as there was shag all to do in Karon Beach. Patong in case anyone doesn't know is the real tourist capital in Phuket where everything is twice the price and where the Thai girls wander the pubs and streets wearing little or nothing trying to get their hands on a rich westerner! Me and Edel hit a few bars (as you'll see from photos, full of hookers but really edel got more attention from them than I did (fuck sake) one of the girls in there even started feeling her arse, funny! The bars were so sleazy, girls everywhere dancing and chatting to aul lads. the amount of 50, 60, and 70 year old men we saw walking around with 20 year

2 nice ladyboys for edel old Thai girls was disgusting. These girls are all hookers and get paid by the day to be with the lads. Sounds funny enough but really its pretty bad.. then again the girl gets some cash and the lad gets some sex so maybe its a fair trade off??
We spent most of our time on Karon beach really, Edel did a parachute trip across the bay being towed by a boat. Dunno what thats called but it has a name. Looked class, and also pretty scary but Edel stepped up to the mark quicker than I did and loved it... I'll have her skydiving yet!! Went back to Patong again that night to an Irish bar to watch Ireland beat Scotland and seal another triple crown. Had great craic with the scottish lads and met a cork lad called Ed and his Thai 'wife' Orr. Really sound people so spent til the early hours drinking and talking shite with them. Got absolutely locked and cant even remember the tuk tuk journey home!
Overall Phuket is really overhyped and overpriced but nice all the same. The problem is everyone is in on the rip off act so you
cant exactly shop around for prices or haggle with them as they all have set prices for 'farang' as they call us, even though Thai locals get the same thing at a third of the price. Not much to do here during the day either although the night life is fun... Anyway its the big one, Bangkok next!

Having read about the attractions of Phuket I want to book a holiday there, but your mother won't allow me, for some reason!!
