If you ever have the time in your life to ride the trans mongolian railway then do so, if you don't - then make time. We had the most amazing adventure crossing the continents of Europe and Asia. The first few days we crossed through Europe and the Ural Mountains, heading into the Siberean plain - trees everywhere. The snow and ice made for an even more interesting trip - there was a hole in the bathroom leading directly outside - you could see the track going underneath, and the areas between carriages were completely covered in snow (although we were kept pleasantly warm by a coal fire that heats the carriage).

We were really lucky with the people in our carriage - there were three other Brits including Edgar, our beloved friend from moscow, 6 Sweeds who all spoke fluent English, 3 Germans (also fluent) and a few Russians/Ukrainians. Most nights we had small gatherings in our compartment, one of which turned out to be one of the most wild nights of my life. Vodka party with drinking games got things started, and throughout the night it seemed nearly the whole carriage had sat with us in our compartment. Nazargig - a man who I mistook for a Bond villain on sight invaded our compartment, stole Zander and plied him with vodka. Things later turned nasty when he came back on the rampage, attaking myself and Ross (altough no serious wounds). Many russian guards / police invaded the train, although the situation was sorted out the next morning with no arrests and a handshake. Our room was trashed as a result of general drunkeness, but I regret nothing and had the best time.

The six days on the train passed so fast I barely had time to read even a few chapters of one of the many books I brought. We passed through the barren Gobi Desert in Mongolia, saw wild camels and horses, and eventually finished trailing the mountains in China and passing through the great wall. Overall I had an amazing time and cant wait to find out what lies ahead of us on our journey. Best of luck to everyone we met on the train - I wont forget you.
