Monday 26th Feb -

After a couple of 'doing jack-shit' days the four of us (Willis, Sam, J and myself) decided to hire a better jeep and set off to explore some of the islands waterfalls - so with Willis driving and J. in her green tu-tu mini skirt, bikini top and rattan flip flops, (looking very nice for a day by the pool) we set off.
With proper 4 wd and a decent driver the journey was easy and we arrived by dirt tracks to Koh Phangan National Park which includes Phaeng Waterfall and Phaeng Noy Waterfall. Without a bottle of water between us, we set off up through the jungle path, UP being the operative word 'path' to be used in lightest description, after an ascent of 1:2, encountering poisonous snake and extremely large spider webs, luckily vacant (although we were wondering where the spiders were hiding), we came to the summit at 498 metrs. it was like climbing in an oven, sweat was trickling down Mum's face, down her body and out the bottom of her shorts. The view was brilliant over the jungle canopy - but then the fun started!!

We set off on the descent, trying to find a waterfall (we saw a wet patch on a rock, which was waterfall Number 1) then unfortunately took the wrong track ending up at the ravine of the waterfall river bed - as it had been a more than tricky descent so far, we decided to go down the rocks to the bottom - not a good move - 50' down on solid red hot rock and boulders. Sam was first and manged to get down unscathed, J. was second in line and being helpful turned round to tell Willis and Mum to 'mind the slippery bit' in so doing subsequently disappeared sliding down the boulders and wedging herself between two large rocks, she did not disappear completely as she had one leg and her head sticking out - after extricating herself and assuring us that she was o.k. she went another l0' and disappeared again. By now the 'tu-tu' was tat-tat, her white 'shorty pants' were black in the most inconvenient place, and we were wishing that we had taken before and after photos. (there may be some on the camera but not downloaded yet)

To say that we were relieved to get down would be an understatement - we were so keen to get back to the car that we couldn't be arsed to go the the second waterfall, which did have a trickle of water seeping from the rock, and a slightly larger puddle at its base. All we could think of was getting down in one piece and a bottle of water.

Went to Haad Rin for lunch, how 10,000 people fit in there we just could not visualise, it was very busy and the streets very narrow, most of them one way, but Willis ignored that fact.

After lunch went to the Dog Rescue (PAC) in Thong Salla, Sam needed some worming tablets and flea spray (not for herself) for a beautiful dog that we had befriended on our beach.

Took a wrong turning on the way back and had a beautiful drive through some fantastic scenery, it truly is a super island, cannot explain how nice it is. Hope our photos will do it justice. (Will get them downloaded a.s.ap.)

Wednesday 27th - just finished packing we are off to Samui and Shambala tomorrow for three nights, then back to Bangkok. Bye for now love to all Mum and J (now sporting a knee support instead of the tu-tu mini-skirt!)
