The bus from Airlie to Townsville left pretty early and I thought my breakfast had cost me getting to the bus stop in time, but luckily the shuttle came back for me and in the end I had loads of hanging around time. There were planty of the usual suspects at the bus stop that I had met over the last few weeks. The bus arrived in Townsville in the afternoon and I waved a hurried goodbye to Ellie who I had travelling with for the last few weeks to immediately jump on the ferry over to Magnetic Island.

On the other side a bus waited or us that went around the island. Once at my accomodation (which had a Koala sanctuary on the premisis) I had a drink with a girl who checked in a t the same time. Gemma and I decided to hire a car for the next day as this is the best way to get around the island and see the various beaches and coves.

The car arived and rather splendidly had a convertable roof (plenty of opportunity to get a burnt head then). We had a breakfast on the jetty at Picnic bay and each had an experience in the toilet that sings while you are in there! We also saw rock wallabies which we fed apple to. Lunch was taken at Alma bay which was buzing with families and bbqs as it was the weekend.

Then it was off to Radical Bay, Florence Bay and Arthor Bay. By this time it was a little cooler and was a good time to take the Forts walk with the hope of seeing one or two wild koalas. We had our eyes peeled but had to rely on someone else to point out a little fellow. It was great to see a koala in the wild and deinately a highlight for me. He didn't do much but he seemed to be awake and moving a little.

In the evening Gemma and I had a few drinks with Tania (a visiting Australian). Magnetic Island is not a party destination but it is really beautiful and a great lace to relax.
