The Kitchen
Tin tables in Chiang Mai cheapest food but the best! First night on Koh Samui found the above English pub and being true Brits J had veggie pie chips and beans and Mum sausages mash and onion gravy - yummy - just needed a change from noodles and fried rice (well the Thais wouldnt come to UK and live on roasts without hankering for a bowl of pad Thai!)
Anyone thinking of visiting Koh Samui the Shambala beach bungalows are excellent value for money and great staff and food is scrummy if you choose to not go out of an evening. Its a really nice quiet area too but not far from Chaweng.
Friday 16th Feb - had our boat trip booked for 11am start, headed off on a beautiful calm turquoise sea and the guy that took us out brought along his dog "Flash" a little cutee that we both fell in love with - so much so that I lost my hat 5 minutes into the trip as I was clinging on to Flash scared he'd fall in (he had better sea legs than Mum- tell you why later!) First port of call Haad Rin Beach where the famous full moon parties are held. We were expecting
Red Hot Chilli Sauce!
Tin tables in Chiang Mai cheapest food but the best! This was NOT sweet and sour sauce as Mum expected! a large beach as the parties attract 10,000 people - we were shocked - its tiny. I was claustrophobic under her mossie net last night (2 panic attacks first night!) so no full moon party for us!
Headed off to small cove for lunch (Bamboo Restaurant) on top of the rocks. Very precarious climb up to it but fantastic views. Worried about Mum climbing up as when we were getting out of the boat she fell out head first much to the amusement of all on the beach and myself! It was at this point that I realised the stupid mare had her bikini bottoms on inside out and the gusset looked remarkably like a big white panty liner stuck on the outside!! (always good for a laugh my Mum - Im still chuckling 2 days later!!). Had a great meal and then set off for a deserted beach reached only by boat or jungle trek - met 2 silly sods who had opted for the trek and run out of mossie spray for the trek back! Swam ashore and had the coolie box brought over for a cool Smirnoff Ice - heaven! Just back to Shambala intime for a
shower and happy hour where Mum had two Mai Thai cocktails and spotted a huge grin for the rest of the evening! A good day.
Saturday 17th Feb - spent the day on the beach (bummer!) another massage performed by Auntie Deng - God it hurts even more the second time around! However its a miracle cure for my varicose veins and Mums dodgy hips - we will try and muster up some more courage for a third one Monday! We havent shopped yet since we have been here so we are off to Chaweng tomorrow (Blackpool on Samui) has shops open from 12 noon til midnight! Have found that Bangkok was twice the price of Chiang Mai but Samui is 4 times as much. We will report back on the shopping trip on our next blog!
We have put photos on but as it takes us a while they are in no particular order as you can see - we have to get them on disc so bear with us!
Missing you all and love you all lots. Have you got our postcards yet?
