The Grand Vienna Operahouse

We have been resting in our home away from home for a few days now.. And have started a much needed diet to try and feel normal again. Trying to do better than pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and have replaced alcohol with water for the time being. We have even started some kind of an exercise regimen in preparation for our trip to India. We came to the scary realization that once we shed off all these layers of clothes..we may not feel as comfortable in our skin 😊 So far so good...we have tried some great new recipes with lentils, tofu and mushrooms...yum..

We were supposed to go meet our friend Arash in the Italian Alps this week, but after extensive research we decided against it. (It was a painful decision.. We were both really looking forward to seeing Arash and spending a week in the Mount Blanc region). The trip would have been a grueling combination of trains, plains and automobiles.. literally. We had to fly (or take an overnight train to Milan), then take another train to the main Milan station, and from there take a bus to Courmeasgdhasgd....add in the fact that we had a really hard time finding hotels or pensions bookable online..and the cost.. We had to make the not so fun decision.

Since Italy wasn’t on our side (It must be all the bad things we said about Milan), we decided to take a local boarding trip. David did some research and we agreed on Bad Gastein, it’s a town about 5 hours from Vienna in the Tirol region. We leave in 3 days.. should be a lot of fun Hopefully there’s plenty of snow..

Since we are in Vienna for a couple of days, we decided to check our the Opera. We have been putting it off long enough and it would be a shame to leave Vienna without experiencing the world famous Opera House. We were able to get 10.00euro, “no good view”, tickets..and a confirmation that fancy attire is not mandatory. Good to go.

The Vienna Opera house is a magnificent building, inside and out. The paintings, the stairs, the halls..we were in owe. We see what all the fuss is about. We got to our little corner room and found our seats.. Hmmmm.. This is what she meant when she said “no good view”..it’s more like no view at all.. We were pretty close to the stage, but on the second row of corner room.. So no view.. Oh well.. Can’t expect much more from a 10.00euro ticket. We were listening to Mozart’s Don Giovanni and once in a while caught a glimpse of the performers. David had read the synopsis earlier in the day, so we sort of had an idea of what the story was about.. And tried to follow it as best as we could. During intermission we decided we couldn’t take much more of starring at the back of the heads of the couple infront of us and made a B line to the door.
We walked around KartnerStrasse for a while and with the help of a hotel connoisseur we found a salsa club we had heard about. Floridita is a cute little bar.. They played some really good salsa, meringue and even had express Salsa dance classes.. It was fun watching people... few were exceptionally good and most were extremely funny..we made a mental note to come back to this place before we left Vienna.

Shaba Shaba...

We had seen a poster for a Bollywood show and thought it would be a good way to try and pick up some much needed moves for our upcoming festivities in India. Bollywood the show was exactly what we imagined it would be.. Colorful outfits, great singing and no shortage of petting the dog and twisting the lightbulb. Attached video clip will describe it better than words could.

One more day before our boarding trip.. Tomorrow we get to do laundry, pack and squeeze in a quick visit to a photography exhibit.
