Tabla (Indian drum) lessons are amazing, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm still going to do Kathak (dance) as well, and just come to 2 out of 3 lessons. I'm happy about that, it's a lot of fun and good exercise as well. I also started tutoring at a kids school a few hours a week. It's an after school program to help some of the kids keep up in their English classes. A bunch of us go a few days a week. It's been fun so far. The kids range from being really shy to totally outgoing. All of them are so excited to see us every time we come over--all the girls want to say hi to us and shake our hands. At the tutoring session we have them read to us and write sentences. I'm usually with Yogesh, who is 10, and Dikiran, who is 13. Yogesh can read really quickly, while it takes Dikiran a lot longer to sound out the words. It can be a little difficult to work with them together with one being so far ahead of the other.
Apologies for the lack of entries lately. Been pretty busy around Ahere, between classes, tabla, and Kathak. I've been having a lot of fun though.
I think the combination of being sick while so far away from home is the perfect recipe for homesickness. I didn't really feel it until I had an upset stomach a week ago, and was stuck sitting around the guest house wanting the sympathy of my parents. Guess it was bound to happen sometime or another. I think I'm better now, health wise, and I'm not so grumpy anymore either. Overall, I'd say everything is going well.
I'm meeting more people on campus and in my classes. I can actually walk to class every now and then and be stopped by 3 or 4 different people (non-SIP) to say hi and chat. That's a nice feeling.
Sorry this is so short--I will try to put up more pictures later.
