This morning we visited a local geothermal Maori village. It's full name is: Te Whakarewarewatanga O Te Ope Taua a Wahio. Thankfully 'Whaka' seems to be good enough! It was really interesting. our guide was great and he led us around the village and we saw all the geisers, the hot pools and bubbling mud. They cook their food in steam boxes and in the hot water pools. We had corn, sausage and steamed pudding cooked this way and it was all delicious. I paddled in one of the mineral pools which was nice but very hot! there was also a Maori show so we saw the Huka dance and other traditional dances.

We went to a local polynesian spa in the afternoon which was lovely. The water was hot and there were three outside pools overlooking Lake Rotorua. Very relaxing although a freakishly high number of chinese. We were outnumbered but was blissful to sit and relax and felt very smooth after all the mineral treatment.

We found a nice fish n chip shop round the corner - my first of the trip (yum!) and then went back to the hostel. They have a huge indoor climbing wall here so we thought we would give it a go. I have never done it before but it was great fun. I managed to scale 4 different climbs. It was quite scary being at the top. Even more scary was that Shashi was in control of my rope in case I fell off! However, she did a fine job : )
So all in all a very full and fun day
