We've landed

So, we get on our plane ready for take off, as per usual we're sat by the wing, and then as the pilot started testing the engine the wing right outside our window started smoking!!! This was apparently because the 2nd engine wouldn't start and therefore led to a 3 hour delay while they got a new one fitted and all this time we're sat on the plane watching the fire engines standing by!!! So after an anxious 8 hour flight (11 hours on the plane in total), we finally landed and set off to our hostel/hotel.

The hotel is basic but ok, apart from the noisiest radiator ever!!! but what can you expect for $40 a night!!

Today we went for breakfast at City Diner, a proper american diner 5 mins walk from here. After sampling the various ways of cooking eggs and the home fries we set off for mid town
Manhattan.

We got the underground to Time Square and started our day of fun (and lots of walking). From there we went to the Chrysler building after dragging Verity away from the massive Toys r Us! then we went to the observation point at the top of the Empire State Building, the views were amazing but it was really cold and windy and as a result Gary has really red cheeks!! then after a swift Starbucks, we walked along fifth avenue, stopping at the Rockafella center and Tiffany's (and no we didn't buy anything!). After that we circled back to Times square where at Verity's request we returned to Toy's r Us to ride the in store ferris wheel!!

So now we're back at the hostel and looking forward to our first New York dinner.

Scary Stuff!!
So I guess that wasn't the best start to your travels but at least you're prepared now!! Glad to hear you arrived safely though, and are having a good time. V i'm so proud you got Gary onto the ferris wheel (i hope he wasn't unwell this time!!). I guess you will be moving onto your next destination soon, so take care and keep us updated!! xxxxxxxxx
