So, the days are passing, and I'm still catching up. Perhaps I need to be a little more efficient about this. I mean, currently, I am in Hyderabad, staying at the Study India Program (SIP) Guest House, which has very agreeable accommodations for foreign students. I'm on my laptop and connected to the Wi-Fi in the lobby where everyone (including myself) sits with their computers, obsessively typing away on our e-mail, facebook, and aim accounts. We have been getting out and about as well though, seeing as classes have somewhat started. I'll explain what I mean by "somewhat" later.

To continue with my recap, I guess I have to go back to when I arrived in India. Everything went smoothly overall. I thought my suitcase was lost because it didn't show up on the baggage claim, but it had been screened and was sitting off to the side the whole time. I found someone holding a CIEE card, and they took me to a taxi, which took me to a YWCA (after the usual incredibly life-threatening drive through Delhi traffic), in which I was taken to my room, in which I sat for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do next. I knew everyone in my group was staying at the YWCA for orientation, but I couldn't find anyone. As I noted in my mini-journal: "(I'm) at the YWCA, seen nobody from my program, including Sharada, and am feeling stupid, clueless, and tired. Ah well--could be worse."

And of course, it really wasn't that bad. Everyone was on a day trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, and Sharada called me and showed me where to get lunch, and then I fell asleep for a very long time, which ended up being a mistake because I woke up at midnight and could not fall asleep again after that. I met my roommates, Brittany and Pareen, that night, and everyone else the next day. To save on time, I'll make this a long story short--basically everyone was really quite friendly, and welcoming, which was encouraging especially since I was so late for the orientation. Apparently I had missed some good lectures and trips, but it didn't affect interacting and becoming comfortable with everyone in the program. They're really a great group of people--I don't think I've ever become so comfortable with such a big group of people after such a short period of time.

Next up, New Year's Eve...

Loved the photos/entries
Hi Priya - great travel log so far. This is such a cool website. I can't believe all the touring you got to do in a few hours in London. What are we going to do when we're there in May?!! We're so glad things are going well and you already have a little bit of a leg up in terms of how things function in India. Have a great time! We love you!

Hey Girl: Thanks for the info. What a way to see the world. We all enjoy hearing. Talked to your Dad a bit ago and he's having the usual weekend at home. Looking forward to a visit from him in about a month to do the tax thing. Thanx for including us all. Love you lots, GMom
