Been a while since my last entry so I thought I would say hello to everyone back home and try and explain the heat wave currently engulfing the city of Buenos Aires. I know that this may fall on deaf ears for those in Vancouver whose weather woes continue to plague havoc in the city, but wooooooo, it is hot in Bs.As.

Today, the mercury hit 33 degrees, however with the heavy humidity, the news told us that it felt more like 39 degrees! I have never before felt heat like this, although in the shade with a breeze it is bearable. Laurence’s parents, Jean and Lise arrived from Quebec City on Thursday and we have been busy sipping coffees and eating croissants in the morning, walking and shopping during the day and dining on delicious cuisine at night. It has been fun and it is great to have some family down here joining us for Christmas. I am looking forward to my mom and Scott arriving on Tuesday. It will be a great Christmas this year!

Can't believe its been a month since my last entry but it been busy with school commitments. However I am happy to say, Laurence and I have finished with our formal school commitments and are looking forward to 7 months of travelling and exploring the huge and varied continent. On my part, the research ended up going extremely well and I am confident that I will be able to produce something worthwhile for my degree. Who would have thought that the protests, which take place almost daily in the city, resemble the scene in the soccer stadium; complete with flares, singing, dancing, rude gestures, flags and banners and costumes. In Sam Roberts words, they were born from the same flame. It has been interesting and entertaining following the protests, observing how the people perform in these often tense situations. In the same vain, it has been great to observe the exact same performances in the crowds who frequent the soccer stadium every Sunday and I have had the pleasure of watching 8 games live during my stay in Buenos Aires. In all honesty, I often found the atmosphere in the stands more entertaining than the soccer, but I guess that makes sense since I’m a rugby fan. The final soccer game was played (a playoff match because their points at the end of the tournament were the same) between Boca Juniors and Estudiantes de La Plata last Wednesday, which saw an incredible upset by Estudiantes. The repercussions was that the new Boca coach was forced to quit and Boca was denied the Tri-Championship which they were so close to winning.

Looking forward to the next chapter in the journey. Buenos Aires has been amazing but a city with 13 million people does get to you at times and I can’t wait to hit the open road.

We will be thinking of everyone back home during Christmas, where the plan is to be in Mendoza province at a lovely winery, enjoying good food and wine with both families. After that Mom, Scott, Laurence and I will be heading south into Patagonia. I hope all is well in Vancouver and that everyone will have some time off during Christmas and into the New Year.

Lots of love to everyone!

Ciao

Jason
