Literally a holiday within a holiday. We took 20 days out of our winter stay in Mexico to take a cruise from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Valparaiso, Chile With a couple of days at each end for some additional touring.

Rounding Cape Horn was a highlight for us. Also having travelled from the Arctic Circle (Iceland) almost to Antarctica within a year.

A reminder that this works best if you touch /highlight each picture to enlarge it.

We thought we were looking out at the Atlantic Ocean but this is actually the mouth of the Plate or Plata River. Apparently wider than the Amazon at its mouth.

I wonder if he will get torn down one day….his “discoveries” led to so much misery & death for the indigenous peoples of the Americas.

A beautiful feature of this city is the broad tree filled boulevards. Traffic is horrendous but the view is great when you’re not driving.

Good quality entertainment provided each evening. We usually had dinner around 7 then went to the 9 pm show.

About 1/2 way down the Argie coast. Many fellow cruisers took 5 hour bus rides to see sea lions & penguins. We passed…having seen lots of penguins & sea lions. At $450 US a head it was a budget breaker…..and likely a back breaker as the roads were mostly unpaved.

Not what I thought! The captain informed us that it is rarely this calm. 60’ waves and gale force winds are more common. We were able to circumnavigate the island…bleak & wind swept. Hundreds of ships have gone down here.

Always a great menu available. We took a tour of the ‘behind the scenes’ workings of the ship. It included the galley (s), waste & recycle centres, engine control room…the ship uses on average 80 000 gallons of diesel a Day! It carries enough for 2 weeks. Also visited the bridge…really interesting…3 different navigation stations.

Well that’s how it’s billed. Built by convicts in C19. to keep them busy, it is a short ride across rugged countryside to its terminus at the Beagle Channel.

Hello World Travellers
Hi Ian and Marlene, Thanks once again for sharing your amazing trip photos. We always thoroughly enjoy them and we always learn so much. This trip looked incredible. Of course, a highlight for me was the stadium that was the home for Messi and Maradona - can’t get the sports fan out of me. Glad you two enjoyed another terrific adventure. We assume you’re back in Mexico now. Enjoy your time back there. Hopefully we can connect some time. Happy travels ! Ted and Moe
