On our way
At Heathrow Well, we arrived at our hotel in Beijing at about midnight last night and were knackered! Had been travelling for over 24hrs in total! 3 lots of feeding on aeroplanes though. We think we're going to be aeroplane food tasters for the next few weeks! lol. We were v impressed with the flight from Hongkong to Beijing which was run by Dragon Air. We were at the front of cattle class and had quite a bit of extra leg room, and they even gave us a menu to choose what we fancied for our meal. Hayley decided to ask for a glass of red wine to go with her meal and I thought I'd join her, unfortunatly this is where her clumsiness started and she spilt it all over her top! We're finding getting used to the Chinese currency a bit tricky. When we arrived at the hotel a porter took our bags up to our room and when I tried to give him a tip of 4 Yuan he looked a bit startled and Hayley and I thought 'perhaps he's not allowed to take tips', he took the cash in the end and then we later realised that I had
given him the equivalent of about 20p!! lol...cheapskates!
Today we were picked up at 8.45 for a guided tour to Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, a silk making shop, followed by lunch in Chinese restaurant (not much different to what we'd have in the UK, can't help wonering if it was a set menu for Westerners?), and finally Temple of Heaven. There were 2 guys from Saudi on the tour with us who were quite a laugh, we helped them choose tops for their daughters at the silk shop. Hope they like them! Also, today's tour saw witness Hayley's 2nd clumy moment in 1 day! We stopped for a hot chocolate when in the gift shop at Forbidden City, again Hayley threw her drink, but luckily it missed her and just got the floor instead. So along came a Chinese lady with a mop!
