¡Maravilloso! Durante las recientes vacaciones navideñas de 2023, recibimos una invitación para explorar la fascinante ruta turística de Boyacá, y sin duda, fue una elección acertada. Pudimos admirar algunos pueblitos boyacenses, los cuales son lugares cargados de historia, naturaleza y mucha riqueza cultural. Consideramos que es una región muy dinámica en cuanto al turismo navideño, y esto se refleja en cada rincón que visitamos. Se nota claramente que las autoridades invierten de manera significativa en el turismo: buenas carreteras y la seguridad vial; igualmente, saben rescatar la belleza de cada pequeño pueblo y lo reunen todo en el Pueblito Boyacense, con sus impresionantes réplicas que realmente me dejaron impactado. Aunado a ello, cabe destacar la gran cantidad de paisajes pintorescos, lo cual la convierte en una destinación bastante completa, sumando las tradiciones navideñas, como los pesebres, arbolitos y adornos de navidad que bellamente decoran sus parques.
Fantastic! Throughout the recent Christmas holidays of 2023, we received an invitation to embark on the Boyacá tourist route, and it unquestionably proved to be a wise decision. We had the chance to admire some charming Boyacá towns, which are places filled with history, nature, and rich cultural heritage. Indeed, we consider
it a very dynamic region in terms of Christmas tourism, and this is evident in every corner we visited. It is clear that the authorities invest significantly in tourism, reflected in well-maintained roads and road safety. Equally, they know how to showcase the beauty of each small town, bringing it all together in El Pueblito Boyacense, with its impressive replicas that truly left me awestruck. This is not to mention the abundance of picturesque landscapes, making it a quite complete destination, especially when you add the Christmas traditions, such as nativity scenes, Christmas trees, and decorations that beautifully adorn their parks.
Quiero destacar que, lamentablemente, no contamos con el tiempo suficiente para explorar todas las maravillas turísticas que ofrece la región. Aunque pudimos disfrutar de las encantadoras calles coloniales, los paisajes espectaculares y la hospitalidad mágica de los habitantes de Boyacá, nuestra visita se centró principalmente en relajarnos y encontrarnos en familia, pues yo ya llevaba un tiempito fuera de casa, mientras admiramos el espíritu navideño y la alegría de las festividades de diciembre. Sin embargo, para aquellos que planifiquen su viaje en otra época, les insto a aprovechar al máximo el recorrido y a explorar otras
ciudades mágicas como Villa de Leyva, Zipaquirá, Ráquira, Tunja y otros destinos espectaculares. ¡La región tiene mucho más para ofrecer que lo que encuentran aquí en este blog, y estoy seguro de que su experiencia será inolvidable! 🌟🗺️
I want to highlight that, unfortunately, we did not have enough time to explore all the tourist wonders the region has to offer. Although we enjoyed the charming colonial streets, spectacular landscapes, and the magical hospitality of the people of Boyacá, our visit focused mainly on relaxation and family time, as I had been away from home for quite some time. However, for those planning their trip at another time, I urge you to make the most of your journey and explore other magical cities such as Villa de Leyva, Zipaquirá, Ráquira, Tunja, and other spectacular destinations. The region has much more to offer than what you find on this blog, and I am sure your experience will be unforgettable! 🌟🗺️
Con el emocionante propósito de disfrutar al máximo con mi hermosa familia, partí desde Bogotá, luego de saludar a un primo y a su querida esposa, para reunirme con ellos en una encantadora
finca en Duitama. En ese momento, tenía poca idea del mágico contraste que me aguardaba: la combinación de la asombrosa naturaleza, los paisajes festivos, las pintorescas fachadas y las fascinantes réplicas que caracterizan estas tierras tan acogedoras.
With the exciting purpose of enjoying to the fullest with my beautiful family, I left Bogotá, after greeting a cousin and his dear wife, to join them at a charming estate in Duitama. At that moment, I had little idea of the magical contrast that awaited me: the combination of astonishing nature, festive landscapes, picturesque facades, and fascinating replicas that characterize these welcoming lands.
Duitama Llegué a Duitama, la perla de Boyacá, después de un viaje de 2 horas y media en la flota Libertadores desde la ciudad de Bogotá. Poco después, me recogió mi sobrino, con una de mis hermanas, doña Yolanda y Ana Milena y pude ver rápidamente algo del pueblo, que me recordó un poco a Pamplona, pero mucho más grande. En la finca, me esperaban ya mis queridos padres y hermana, a quienes no veía durante algún tiempo y luego mis otros dos hermanos llegaron con sus respectivas familias.
I arrived in Duitama, the pearl of Boyacá, after a 2.5-hour journey on the Libertadores bus from Bogotá. Shortly after, my nephew picked me up, along with one of my sisters, Doña Yolanda, and Ana Milena, and I quickly got a glimpse of the town, which reminded me a bit of Pamplona but much larger. At the farm, my dear parents and sister, whom I hadn't seen in a while, were already waiting for me, and later, my other two brothers arrived with their respective families.
Experimentamos la hospitalidad excepcional de una hermosa finca en Duitama. Don Ivar y Ana Milena nos brindaron una atención ejemplar, ofreciéndonos todo lo necesario con cordialidad y participando en conversaciones interesantes. El paisaje que nos rodeaba parecía haber sido extraído de una postal, simplemente magnífico. El anfitrión, extremadamente organizado, nos dividió en comités cuando él y su esposa tuvieron que ausentarse rumbo a Bucaramanga. Incluso los amigos caninos, con nombres memorables como Merly, Marly, Luna, Nico y Kathy, nos recibieron con amabilidad, mientras que los gatos, aunque menos sociables, demostraron ser expertos en el arte de dormir, y uno de ellos, resultó ser bastante callejero y nos hacía salir a buscarlo
cada vez.
We experienced exceptional hospitality at a beautiful farm in Duitama. Don Ivar and Ana Milena provided us with exemplary care, offering everything we needed with warmth and engaging in interesting conversations. The surrounding landscape seemed like it was lifted from a postcard, simply magnificent. The extremely organized host divided us into committees when he and his wife had to leave for Bucaramanga. Even the canine friends, with memorable names like Merly, Marly, Luna, Nico, and Kathy, welcomed us kindly, while the less sociable cats proved to be experts in the art of sleeping, and one of them turned out to be quite a street-smart explorer, leading us on a search each time.
Las mañanas transcurrían con la agradable compañía de los dueños, disfrutando de la música navideña al aire libre. Por las tardes, nos sumergíamos en partidas de parqués, y al caer la noche, llevábamos a cabo la novena de aguinaldo, repartiendo entre nosotros las oraciones y cantando el popular: "Ven a nuestras almas, ven, ven, ven". La cabaña acogió a un grupo impresionante de 21 personas, creando un ambiente bullicioso y lleno de alegría. En resumen, nuestra estancia fue simplemente inolvidable,
marcada por la calidez, la diversión y el espíritu navideño que inundó cada rincón de este acogedor refugio en Duitama.
Mornings unfolded with the pleasant company of the owners, enjoying outdoor Christmas music. In the afternoons, we immersed ourselves in games of parqués, and as night fell, we conducted the

Paipa Paipa, un rincón encantador que nos transportó a la época colonial con su impresionante centro histórico repleto de casas de arquitectura colonial, fue el escenario de una experiencia breve pero inolvidable. Suficiente para disfrutar de la hospitalidad de las pocas personas con las que tuvimos la oportunidad de hablar. Mientras explorábamos el pintoresco pueblo, mi padre se percató de la importancia de llevarse un recuerdo, y así descubrió unos preciosos relojes de pared con la emotiva leyenda: "Vine a Paipa y le traje
esto a sumercé". También descubrimos una amplia variedad de artesanías, tanto locales como procedentes de otras regiones. Pasear por las panaderías es una experiencia irresistiblemente aromática, anunciando la riqueza gastronómica con deliciosos olores de almojábanas, masato y la gran variedad de comida típica que se ofrece en los diferentes restaurantes y asaderos de la ciudad.
Paipa, a charming town that transported us to colonial times with its impressive historic center full of colonial architecture, was the setting for a brief but unforgettable experience. Enough to enjoy the hospitality of the few people we had the opportunity to speak with. As we explored the picturesque town, my father realized the importance of taking a keepsake, and he discovered beautiful wall clocks with the heartfelt inscription: "
Vine a Paipa y le traje esto a sumercé" (I came to Paipa and brought this to you–but with regional language). We also discovered a wide variety of crafts, both local and from other regions. Strolling through the bakeries is an irresistibly aromatic experience, announcing the gastronomic richness with delightful scents of almojábanas, masato, and the variety of typical food offered in different restaurants and grills in the city.

Recorrimos las calles peatonales bellamente adornadas, y nos deleitamos con aromáticas bebidas y deliciosas obleas. La noche perfecta culminó con mi hermana y yo explorando las calles en busca de un cajero y, al caer la noche, satisfaciendo nuestro antojo de algo dulce como el chocolate. Paipa, entonces, se revela como un destino que combina historia, calidez humana y experiencias memorables.
Despite our limited time, we managed to capture special moments with family photos in the vibrant park decorated for Christmas. We walked through beautifully adorned pedestrian streets and indulged in aromatic drinks and delicious wafers. The perfect night ended with my sister and me exploring the streets in search of an ATM and, as night fell, satisfying our craving for something sweet like chocolate. Paipa, then, reveals itself as a destination that combines history, human warmth, and memorable experiences.
Corrales Este encantador municipio, coronando el altiplano Cundiboyacense, merece con creces su apodo de "Municipio Luz de Colombia", especialmente durante las festividades navideñas, cuando las calles y el parque se transforman en
un despliegue deslumbrante de iluminaciones cautivadoras. La devoción palpable de los habitantes hacia su pueblo se refleja en el orgullo con el que lo muestran al mundo, creando una atmósfera acogedora y festiva.
This charming town, perched on the Cundiboyacense high plateau, more than deserves its nickname
"Municipio Luz de Colombia" (Municipality Light of Colombia), especially during the Christmas festivities when the streets and the park transform into a dazzling display of captivating lights. The palpable devotion of the inhabitants to their town is reflected in the pride with which they showcase it to the world, creating a welcoming and festive atmosphere.
En esta época del año, explorar sus calles iluminadas, admirar las fachadas decoradas con esmero y maravillarse con la catedral gótica en el parque se convierte en una experiencia fotográfica inolvidable, y eso hicimos. Nos paseamos por el parque, sumergiéndonos en la belleza de la temporada navideña.

corralejas marked the beginning of a town we now know as Corrales. While the accuracy of this story may be subject to debate, the cultural richness and tradition ingrained in this charming corner make it worthwhile to explore and discover more about its fascinating past.

este pintoresco pueblo, la ruanamanía se apodera de cada rincón. No es de extrañar que lo llamen el pueblo más "enruanado" de Boyacá, con el fresco que acaricia sus calles y la multitud de ruanas que adornan a locales y visitantes por igual. Este rincón boyacense no solo se destaca por sus ruanas, sino también por su sorprendente amalgama de tradiciones musicales. En este lugar, como leí en el internet, el vallenato y la carranga se entrelazan de manera única, creando un ambiente festivo que parece estar fuera de lugar en Boyacá, pero que recuerda la riqueza cultural que encierra cada rincón de esta región.

ruanamania takes over every corner. It's no wonder they call it the most
"enruanado" (wrapped in ruanas) town in Boyacá, with the cool breeze that caresses its streets and the multitude of ruanas that adorn locals and visitors alike. This Boyacan corner stands out not only for its ruanas but also for its surprising mix of musical traditions. In this place, as I read on the internet,

carranga intertwine uniquely,
creating a festive atmosphere that seems out of place in Boyacá but recalls the cultural richness that each corner of this region holds.

Al pasear por el parque frente a la iglesia, alcanzamos a sumergimos con mi hermana en la serenidad del entorno, observando tanto a locales como a turistas disfrutar del panorama que ofrece este pueblito. La arquitectura que nos rodeó evocaba recuerdos de las tradiciones culturales que fascinaban mi infancia a través de la pantalla de televisión. Su organización impecable facilita un viaje tranquilo y agradable, permitiéndonos apreciar la belleza del paisaje y sumergirnos en la esencia de nuestro hogar.

As we walked through the park in front of the church, my sister and I immersed ourselves in the serenity of the surroundings, observing both locals and tourists enjoy the panorama that this little town offers. Its impeccable organization facilitates a tranquil and pleasant journey, allowing us to appreciate the beauty of the landscape and immerse ourselves in the essence of our home.
Aproveché la oportunidad y decidí no dejar pasar esta ocasión sin llevarme una hermosa ruana, perfecta para enfrentar los tiempos fríos que me aguardan a lo largo del año; mis padres y hermanas tomaron la misma decisión. El tejido artesanal en lana de oveja se erige como una auténtica joya de la región, y caminando sus calles, pudimos descubrir una amplia variedad de creaciones y diseños. Este enclave artesanal se revela como un auténtico paraíso para los buscadores de tesoros, ofreciendo una impresionante variedad de artículos que capturan la esencia y la creatividad distintiva de este municipio.

ruana, perfect to face the cold times awaiting me throughout the year; my parents and sisters made the same decision. The artisanal weaving in sheep's wool stands out as a true gem of the region, and as
we walked its streets, we discovered a wide variety of creations and designs. This artisanal enclave reveals itself as a genuine paradise for treasure hunters, offering an impressive variety of items that capture the essence and distinctive creativity of this municipality.
Tota Incluye el lago más grande de Colombia y el segundo navegable a mayor altura del mundo después del lago Titicaca. La imponencia del lago Tota, con sus aguas serenas y sus vistas panorámicas, nos envolvió rápidamente en un abrazo natural que nos hizo apreciar la grandeza de este lugar. No es solo un lago, es un santuario de tranquilidad y belleza que despierta tus sentidos. En efecto, lo pude notar en la corta caminata con mi sobrino Juanda por la arena en Playa Blanca, un rincón de serenidad a orillas del lago Tota. Aquí, la conexión con la naturaleza se fusiona con la alegría de compartir momentos inolvidables. A medida que paseas en carro, podrás admirar los campos de cebolla que se extienden a lo largo de tu recorrido, revelando la riqueza agrícola de esta tierra.
Home to the largest lake in Colombia and the second highest navigable lake
in the world after Lake Titicaca. The grandeur of Lake Tota, with its serene waters and panoramic views, quickly enveloped us in a natural embrace that made us appreciate the greatness of this place. It's not just a lake; it's a sanctuary of tranquility and beauty that awakens your senses. Indeed, I noticed it during the short walk with my nephew Juanda on the sand at Playa Blanca, a corner of serenity on the shores of Lake Tota. Here, the connection with nature merges with the joy of sharing unforgettable moments. As you drive, you can admire the onion fields that stretch along your route, revealing the agricultural richness of this land.
También tuvimos el placer de deleitarnos con la deliciosa gastronomía que ofrece este encantador lugar. En Playa Blanca, disfrutamos de exquisita trucha preparada al ajillo y con calamares . Resultó fascinante saborear estas delicias cerca del lago, en un entorno limpio y agradable con un servicio excepcional. La única observación sería que hubiera preferido que mi Club Colombia estuviera un poco más fría y encontrar un toque más pronunciado de ajo en mi trucha.
We also had the pleasure of indulging in
the delicious cuisine that this charming place offers. At Playa Blanca, we enjoyed exquisite trout prepared with garlic and squid. It was fascinating to savor these delights near the lake, in a clean and pleasant environment with exceptional service. The only observation would be that I would have preferred my Club Colombia beer to be a bit colder and to find a more pronounced touch of garlic in my trout....Sorry
Además de esta experiencia culinaria, almorzamos inmersos en una fusión perfecta de naturaleza y cultura. La serenidad de Playa Blanca nos envolvió, mientras admirábamos los campos cultivados que bordeaban nuestros caminos. Nos dejamos cautivar por la historia que se revela en cada rincón de esta región.
In addition to this culinary experience, we lunched immersed in a perfect blend of nature and culture. The serenity of Playa Blanca enveloped us as we admired the cultivated fields lining our paths. We allowed ourselves to be captivated by the history revealed in every corner of this region.

fin, les insto a que vengan a visitar este lugar, ya que esta joya oculta de Boyacá y hogar del lago más grande de Colombia es un tesoro natural que verdaderamente quita el aliento. La Laguna de Tota, para mí, resultó maravillosa; experimenté una sensación similar a la de Santa Marta, pero con menos frío y una vista espectacular mientras disfrutábamos de una deliciosa trucha al ajillo en un encantador restaurante junto al mar.
Tota, adorned with Christmas lights, transforms into an enchanting stage that stands out in this itinerary, revealing its beauty under the starry sky. In conclusion, I urge you to come and visit this place, as this hidden gem of Boyacá and home to Colombia's largest lake is a natural treasure that truly takes your breath away. The Tota Lagoon, for me, was marvelous; I experienced a sensation similar to that of Santa Marta but with less cold and a spectacular view as we enjoyed a delicious garlic trout in a charming lakeside restaurant.

encantadora a tan solo cuarenta minutos de Duitama, con una entrada accesible de solo 6.000 pesos desde su inauguración en 1995. Esta iniciativa, concebida por el compositor José Ricardo Bautista y respaldada por el gobierno central, tiene como verdadera intención resaltar la hermosura arquitectónica de Boyacá.
Pueblito Boyacense: Declared a cultural and tourist heritage of Boyacá in 2006 and an integral part of the Christmas lighting routes celebrated in December, Pueblito Boyacense offers a charming experience just forty minutes from Duitama, with an affordable entrance fee of only 6,000 pesos ($1.5) since its inauguration in 1995. This initiative, conceived by the composer José Ricardo Bautista and supported by the central government, has the true intention of highlighting the architectural beauty of Boyacá.
Constituido por 124 viviendas y 20 locales comerciales, el Pueblito Boyacense es una representación cautivadora de siete municipios emblemáticos de la región, incluyendo Villa de Leyva, Tibasosa, Tenza, Sáchica, El Cocuy, Monguí y Ráquira. arepas that I had the fortune to taste, accompanied by an exquisite coffee with vanilla and cinnamon that fascinated me.
Sin embargo, la visita se tornó un poco desagradable por la presencia de un grupo de jóvenes lanzando totes, interrumpiendo la alegría del recorrido. Se espera que las autoridades tomen medidas para controlar la pólvora en las entradas y garantizar una experiencia segura y placentera para todos los visitantes.
However, the visit became a bit unpleasant due to the presence of a group of young people throwing firecrackers, interrupting the joy of the tour. It is hoped that authorities take measures to control the use of fireworks at the entrances and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
