To celebrate our 25th Anniversary we signed up for a Celebrity cruise from Cape Liberty NY with stops in Halifax, St. John’s, Greenland then 3 stops in Iceland.

We tacked on 3 extra days in Reykjavik to get in some extra sightseeing.

Entering The Narrows on a blustery morning. The previous 2 days we were subjected to gale force winds of 40+ knots, but the ship handled it well.

We outnumbered the locals! Home to many fishermen & hunters & thankfully not yet teeming with tacky tourist shops.

We took a tour below decks to take a look at how to prepare to feed 3000 cruisers at least 3 times a day.

The most spectacular of days! It started in very dense fog…the ship creeping along at 5 knots avoiding ice bergs. No one mentioned Titanic.

First settled by Vikings in the 800s. Great sod insulated buildings. Their animals shared the buildings in winter for mutual warmth.

Iceland is infamous for its volcanic activity & regular eruptions. The locals feel is has been great for the tourism business.

Cod & chips by the sea! Interestingly, Iceland is not part of the EU as they don’t want to share their fish stocks.

Icelanders have a fondness for trolls, goblins and such. Guides pointed out numerous rocks known to be their hangout.

Definitely a great place to visit. A very walkable city with friendly locals. Also by far the most expensive place we have visited (including London, New York & Paris.) A lunch of 2 bowls of mushroom soup with a slice of bread cost $60 Cad. $18 - 24 for a glass of wine.

Far North
Hi Guys! Thanks for the enthusiastic comments. We hesitated to go away at the peak of summer but there is such a narrow window to visit those northern lands. Glad we did it.
