KUNUNURRA
Ivanhoe CrossingOnly 100klm from Wyndham to Kununurra so an easy day. We stayed at the Lake Kununurra Caravan Park which is a lovely spot with waterfront views. We were kind of thinking Kununurra would be a little more civilised as we had visited here nearly 20 years ago. After booking in and getting settled we had a text from management at the caravan park telling us to lock doors on the van at night, do not leave keys or anything inside your van where someone could see and easily grab them if they got into your van, also to make sure all your belongings are locked up! Geez do we feel safe.....yeeessss but a little uneasy! Then on the second day went to buy beer at the local Thirsty Camel to be told that they could not serve us our normal beer, mid strength and light only as....THEY... had played up so bad last night police have put a limit on what can be sold! Apart from that we have had a lovely time in Kununurra without too much trouble. Second day we did a bit of looking about, out the Ivanhoe Road to Ivanhoe Crossing it looked really scary to cross
KUNUNURRA
Our caravan park right on Lake Kununurra as the current looked really strong but it was easy... with many vehicles going across! Lots of people fishing but NO SWIMMING! Then onto The Hoochery Distillery (which is about 20klm out of own) was great to taste their rum and gins....we had visited here before but it was fairly new on our first visit but now they have food and tastings and a shop....John had a cocktail tasting and of course I had the gins which were delicious! Driving through the countryside you realise what the engineering marvel of the Ord River Dam did to turn this harsh landscape into a food bowl....acres and acres of different types of produce, Sandalwood, melons, corn, cotton, capsicum, tomatoes and lots of tropical fruits. On our way back we stopped off and climbed up Kelly's Knob to get a view over the Kununurra township and the river. Another day we went out to the Mirima National Park which is virtually on the doorstep of the town, lovely park known as the mini Bungle Bungles....we did three different walks in it which were not too difficult and did them first thing in the morning as the temps by lunchtime are just far too
KUNUNURRA
Those great steaks from Willare Bridge Roadhouse...Burton Beef....delicious! hot! So Mirima in the morning and pool in the afternoon. Had a big night out at a beautiful spot on the Ord River only a couple of hundred metres from our caravan park, The Pumphouse. It had been closed for two years but reopened in March this year with new owners. Thank good goodness it did open, we had a beautiful few hours there, went at 4.30pm for sunset drinks and then dinner, everything was first class, food, drinks and wait staff. Just our dinner service we met two Fijian wait staff, an Argentinian and a French boy, all beautiful people, backpackers keeping our hospitality venues in the outback ticking along and doing a wonderful job. Then onto Lake Argyle for 3 nights about 70kms out of Kununurra, only the Discovery Park there but a lovely park. The park is the remnants of the town/site to house all the builders and workers who built the Lake Argyle Dam, bought by a local family in Kununurra who could see it being a great spot for a caravan park, now recently being bought by the G'Day parks group, and they are going to spend like 50 million dollars on developing it

Cooked to perfection by JW further, so next time we visit we may not be able to afford it! There are over 300 sites here and about 500 peole so like a small town and it is totally booked out with vans, tents, campers coming and going every day. Its a fabulous spot on the edge of Lake Argyle a total area of over 1000klm square miles of lake, it is ginormous!! 18 times the size of Syndey Harbour! No wonder they call it an inland ocean, at its peak in wet season it holds a staggering 10.7 billion cubic metres of water. We did a sunset cruise here on our second day, 2.10 til 5.45pm, what an amazing time we had! Cruised around a small portion of the lake, found crocs around every corner, wallaroos and birds..... our guide and skipper was fantastic...lots of history to Lake Argyle! Stopped off about half hour short of our home base and had swim time and sunset drinks! As we popped into the water we were thrown cans of beer, wines and bubbles, the water was lovely, unlike the water temp at the pool at the resort... we had a fabulous arvo...lots of information, afternoon tea and

The Conversion Dam....massive! sunset drinks and nibbles. Live music the park every night is a bonus....has a lovely feel to it this lovely park but mind you it is probably up there with being the most expensive park we have stayed in $70 a night. PS: Sorry this is a late blog but the Travel Blog worldwide has been down for 4 days!!!
