This entry has taken a while to be able to write and is dedicated to our sweet prince Tarragon. We unfortunately lost him on September 13, at 1:30-pm and he went on his last journey without us.

Tarragon came to us 13 years ago, he was a stray that ruled Stanton Street in Portland, Oregon. It was pretty clear to us that his former family had abandoned him, as when he finally came in the house 4 months later, he was perfectly trained. It did take him a year to trust us enough to give us the honor of petting him, but from then on, the three of us were inseparable.

Those of you that have followed this blog have heard many stories of his travels with us. Domestically, he almost always traveled with us. We had hoped that he would be with us when we retired to France, but that was not in the cards.

In any event, we are both deeply saddened that our traveling cat will no longer be traveling with us, except in our hearts.

Tarragon has been too many places, New Orleans, Charleston, Portland, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Bar Harbor Maine, most all of New Mexico, and of course he made the great move from Portland to Manhattan, then finally to Providence.

Tarragon, did get one last trip before he left us. We knew the day was coming, so we wanted to give him one more opportunity to be outside and smell the late summer air. A few years back in the fall we took a road trip through New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Tarragon was with us the entire way. One of his favorite places was in the White Mountains of New Hampshire at a place called the Adair Country Inn. One of the few bread and breakfasts, that are not just pet friendly but cat friendly. We had a wonderful room with a fireplace and windows that were deep enough for him to sit on and small the air. It was hard to get him out of the windows.

Since we knew he enjoyed this place so much, we took him there for his last trip. He was frail and week, but he still enjoyed roaming around the grounds and laying amongst his Iris’s one last time. I can barely type this because the pain of his loss is still felt by Jerry and I very deeply.

We will always love him and he is always in our hearts. He was our traveling cat and when we didn’t travel with him when we were abroad, he was always on our minds and his scolding when we got home from a trip to Europe will be missed.

Enjoy some of the pictures of our sweet prince Tarragon.

In our hearts and minds forever.
