This is the one where the journaling begins...I am a talker by nature not a writer, so this is a new endeavor for me; however I believe I am in a "new endeavor" phase in my life.
In less than 4 weeks the journey of my lifetime begins (I have dreamt of this for the better part of 20 years): On December 23, 2006, I board a plane ultimately bound for Entebbe, Uganda where I will spend 4 weeks volunteering with an organization that provides humanitarian aide to approximately 50 orphans, as well as trains pastors in the sufficiency of God's word.
At this point, I know very little about the nature of the work I will be doing while I am there...I know I will be helping to prepare for a pastors' conference that begins the day after I leave, but beyond that, and playing with the orphans, I don't know much else. There has been serious talk by the founders of the organization that they desire to open a school there for the orphans so they do not have to send them away to boarding school, but it has not progressed beyond a conversation or two. I am hopeful that I will be able to do some research and help propel things into action during my short time there.
On my way back to the states I will be stopping in London and Paris for a few days...If you are reading this and you have suggestions for things I should definitely see while there or things I should totally avoid, please let me know...I don't have much of an itinerary for either destination, so I welcome your suggestions.
I am so excited about this trip I can hardly stand it! I wish I could leave tomorrow! I am almost ready...I've had my shots (just need to get my malaria pills), shopped for supplies (yikes, travel abroad is expensive), and raised funds (well, almost, but I know the last little bit will come in). I still have a few things to tie up at work before I go, but all-in-all this has been the easiest trip to prepare for...everything just fell into place - who knew it would be so easy?!
Well, that's it...that's the first one; kind of dry, but I am hopeful that I will get better at the blogging thing as time progresses...thanks for reading!

I am so excited for you!! One suggestion... if you can get it past customs, take some food along with you. :) I look forward to reading more blogs. We'll definitely need a pre-bon voyage night out...
