After leaving Carlisle I then headed to Yorkshire to drop off Anna (one of the road crew) then proceeded to York to look around. Since there was not much time left I only entered York Minster. The cathedral was pretty amazing inside; I was a bit shocked to see how much was inside. There were head stones from graves and plagues, coffins and many alters. The place had more packed into it than I had ever imagined. After leaving York the next destination was agreed to be Nottingham, I had a feeling it could be interesting visiting the famous Sherwood forest. The town of Nottingham was fairly small and quiet in respect, however it was pretty clean and friendly I felt. Accommodation was very basic and the hostel was being renovated which meant there was only one shower. Most of the more interesting sights to see had been destroyed, like Nottingham castle. So the main attraction was to be Sherwood Forest. The forest has mostly been cleared but lucky a small amount has been left. The lonely planet guide claims that hundreds of thousands of people visit this location yearly although when I visited it was very quiet. All
SheepSheepSheep

Typical sheep around England and Scotland. Almost always they still have their tails unlike sheep in Australia
but some rangers, some mothers with their children and a lot of squirrels were all to be seen.

On the 24th the remaining crew and I packed up and headed back towards London. However we had plans on visiting Stonehenge. Traffic was terrible and our forecast trip stretched from 2 hours to almost 4. Thus making out arrival time 1 hour after Stonehenge closed for viewing. Sadly we had to turn around and head back to Heathrow airport to drop back the car.

I was very grateful to be out of that car after clocking up 1,790 miles in a week.

beautiful photos
It is obvious you not only appreciate good architecture but nature as well. But the sheep, you're not from N.Z. are you?

Beautiful photos.....
Not from N.Z. I dunno you tell me, am I? :-) I was thinking all my pics and no native wild life! and most often they are more interesting to look at than a bunch of hills so I thought I should capture a few pics of the local animals. I had quite a bit of trouble chasing down the squirrles in Sherwood forest... appears they are very camera shy.
