The Medieval Astronomical Clock
Con este reloj, esto es lo que yo llamo una Super elegante alcaldía. The clock makes the town hall smarterI had spent 11 years living in Europe and though Prague had always been on my imaginary tourist trips, and despite my friends´ comments enumerating the reasons why the luminous city was a must, never did I take the chance to see it for myself and yet, I didn't know what I was missing. Therefore, given that I had left Europe eleven years ago, it made sense to go back and try to experience first hand the beauty of the city, which became one of my favourite cities in the whole world. And that's an understatement, they were right! the gorgeous city, on both banks of the Vltava river, is indeed a must and after the visit, all I want to do is to go back like a dozen times and sit at one of the random cafes to admire just people going by, a hobby I gracefully took up.
Había ya pasado 11 años viviendo en Europa y aunque Praga siempre había estado en la lista de mis viajes imaginarios -y a pesar de los comentarios de mis amigos enumerando las razones del por qué ellos habían viajado a la ciudad luminosa, nunca se me ocurrió coger
las maletas para viajar, y sin embargo, no sabía lo que me estaba perdiendo. En consecuencia, ahora que ya no estoy en el viejo continente hace ya 11 años, era lógico para mí querer regresar y tratar de descubrir la belleza de la ciudad, que se convirtió en una de mis ciudades favoritas. Y eso es solo un eufemismo, esta ciudad hermosa, en ambas riveras Del Río Vitava, es una visita obligada y ahora, lo que quisiera hacer es volver unas doce veces y sentarme en aquellas cafeterías checas para ver a Praga pasar y pasar, lo que fue un pasatiempo que disfruté harto.
First impressions My fIrst impression was of a quite compact and lovely holiday spot, worth the visit for a week or more if one has the time. That was it. At that very moment, little had I seen of such a picturesque place. Some days later, I was surprisingly writing on my notes that if you were looking for traditional and modern contrasts at a very short walking distance, Prague was the right destination, well connected and full of medieval castles and stunning gothic churches.
La primera impresión fue la
de una ciudad bastante compacta y encantadora, lo cual hace que valga la pena la visita durante una semana y más, si se tiene el tiempo. Pero no más! En ese momento, había visto muy poco de la ciudad pictoresca. Algunos días más tarde, me vi a mi mismo escribir que si alguien estaba buscando contrastes tradicionales y modernos a corta distancia, entonces, este era su lugar, tan bien conectado y lleno de castillos medievales e iglesias impresionantes.
Incredible charm The city has so many highlights that is difficult to decide what to show first on a blog.
A shame I couldn't put up all the photos...It is a worthwhile visit, that's for sure, let me put it this way...imagine an open book where you can find pages combining both the new and Old Town, where magic is found at every step, especially in the latter: narrow lanes reminding you of prestigious times in such a well-preserved medieval city with cobblestoned streets and all within walking distances, making it look like just a precious village.
Encanto Increíble La ciudad tiene tantos encantos, que es difícil decidir lo que se va a mostrar primero
en un blog.
Lástima que no pude subir todas las fotos...Vale la pena esta visita, eso está claro... de lo que parece...¿como decirlo? Imagínense un libro abierto, en el que se puede encontrar páginas que combinan un pueblo viejo y su nueva zona con toda la magia nunca imaginada: calles estrechas que hacen recordar esos tiempos del ciudad medieval -que está bien preservada- con calles adoquinadas y todo tan cerca que parece un pueblito en el medioevo.
That's it...Cobblestone everywhere With such different denominations, its old charm and crowded streets, it was hard for me to believe that not very long ago, Prague was considered to be off the beaten track, are you kidding me? An idea that -with such a plethora of venues for you to take in the magic of the city-, was difficult to digest.. I always saw it as the land of Kafka, the writer describing the man who wakes up to realise he's turned into a cockroach during the night -amazing tale- or rather, the international gem protected by UNESCO, offering great holidays all year long...To cut the story short, after drinking some good wine at a bar, while waiting for
the night to fall, there I was, with a backpack and ready to travel on the cheap. That's possible, oh yes... and that's how I started my exploring day on a very wet day. The PraguAdventure!
Eso es...Calles empedradas por todos lados Con tan diferentes atributos, su viejo encanto y sus calles llenas de turistas, fue duro para mí creer que no hace mucho tiempo, Praga era considerada por fuera de los itinerarios, ¿realmente? difícil de creer con tantos lugares vistos para absorber la magia de la ciudad. Por eso difícil de creer lo increíble. SIempre la vi como la tierra de Kafka, el escritor que describía al hombre que amaneció convertido en cucaracha, evento sucedido durante la noche tenebrosa -sorprendente historia- o, más bien, el tesoro internacional tan bien protegido por la UNESCO, ofreciendo bellas vacaciones todo el año.... Para no alargar la historia, luego de beber buen vino en un bar, esperando a que cayera la noche, allí estaba yo listo para viajar a precio de ganga (Si, SE PUEDE) y explorar el día bastante lluvioso que me ofrecía el itinerario. La Gran PRAGAventura!
Contrasts Prague means a crossing of the river
Despite being the fourteenth largest city in Europe and boasting a long history, you can go from one extreme to the other in a whole hour, which makes it sort of a village despite being such a stunning capital city. Sorry for repeating myself but it amazed me, it is a city with non-stop shows featuring entertaining actors, musicians, magicians, mimes and the like, that's a city being alive.
A pesar de ser la decimocuarta ciudad más grande de Europa y con tanta historia, se puede ir de un extremo a otro en una sola hora, lo cual la vuelve una especie de pueblo, a pesar de ser una ciudad capital. Qué pena repetirme pero es que de verdad, me impactó esta ciudad que parece nunca descansar con shows non-stops, llenos de actores que entretienen, músicos, mimos, y todo lo que puedas imaginar.
Traditional dishes and International food Goulash soup, Beer and pork seem to be like the core food, quite yummy, ah? That accompanied by delicious pancakes and other delicacies, which I never learned how they were called, hehehehe, the language
seems so difficult to grasp...but the taste is still in my mouth and the memory of cooks making scrumptious food in the wink of an eye.
Una sopa de Gulash, cerveza y cerdo parecen ser la comida principal, eso me fascinó. Todo acompañado con unos deliciosos panqueques, que nunca aprenderé como se llaman...si la lengua se ve tan difícil de aprender...pero lo que sí me queda es el recuerdo de lugares donde en un abrir de ojos, presentan unas comidas super deliciosas.
Places I recall...
The Charles Bridge Most stunning!!!, its statues of saints on both sides of the bridge are the best; depending on the time of the day, the perspective you have is quite different. I later learned that in order to go back to Prague, I needed to rub the statue of St John of Nepomuk, who was thrown to the river due to the fact that he refused to reveal a confession to the king. There's the moment to use a third conditional: If I had known that....hehehehe, sorry, we teachers never have a break.
Los lugares que me acuerdo... El Puente Charles Bastante
imponente. Sus estatuas de santos en ambos lados del puente son lo mejor; dependiendo del tiempo, se tienen diferentes perspectivas. Lástima que supe solo al final que, el que quiera volver a Praga, tenía que frotar la estatua de St John of Nepomuk, quien según cuenta la historia, lo arrojaron al río por negarse a confesar los pecados de confesión de la esposa del rey. Este es el precioso momento para fabricar una frase de tercer condicional: SI hubiera sabido que...jajajaja, los profes como que somos just a bunch of workaholics. LOL
The Old Town Square For a long time, it has been the city's marketplace that revolves around the Astronomical Clock, the most stunning clock in Europe, built in the 1400s. With its lovely procession of the 12 Apostles every time, striking a new hour, THAT'S TERRIFIC!...leaves me speechless wondering how careful the Czechs have been to be able to keep it so beautiful and still working for so long. Home to the town hall, there are some very interesting attractions inviting tourists to stroll its cobblestone streets.
La Plaza de la Ciudad Vieja Durante mucho tiempo, ha sido una especie de
mercado municipal que gira al rededor del Reloj Astronómico, el reloj mas imponente en Europa, construido en los años 1400. Con su genial procesión de los 12 apóstoles, TODO UN ESPECTACULO...que aparecen cada vez que se cuenta una nueva hora, debo confesar que me dejó perplejo preguntándome qué tan cuidadosos tuvieron que ser los Checos para poder conservarlo durante tanto tiempo y que todavía funcione. Allí se encuentra la alcaldía y varias atracciones interesantes, además que invita a los transeúntes a recorrer sus calles empedradas.
Lots of walking I highly recommend the free walking tours for it is a way to learn about some bits of history while listening to lovely anecdotes of the city and making nice acquaintances. The tour is conducted by extremely entertaining locals who would take you to sites, simply stunningly breathtaking and you can meander its winding streets, There are several meeting points and you have to devote like four hours for the tour, therefore, you need to get your trainers ready for there's lots to see. Before I forget, I must say that drinking tap water is quite safe and if you go on a tour, there's a plethora of
drinking water fountains, just as safe! ANOTHER GREAT FACT.
You'll have the chance to combine a lovely view and good cuisine when you go to the pavement cafes full of people, which is a light to your eyes and a pleasure to your stomach; indeed, by going to a restaurant chosen by Nicola, a Dutch friend, I had the experience of having more servings than I thought I could.
Mucha caminata Recomiendo firmemente los toures gratis a pie ya que son una manera de ganar algo de historia mientras que se escuchan anécdotas encantadoras de la ciudad y llegando a conocer a gente interesante. El tour es conducido por guías locales super entertainers que te llevan a lugares repletos de historia, que te permiten pasearte por sus calles estrechas. Hay varios puntos de encuentro y les recomiendo planear unas 4 horas en su itinerario y unos buenos tenis porque hay mucho por donde caminar y ver. Antes que se me olvide, debo decirles que tomar agua de la llave es muy seguido así que si está en el tour, acérquese a las fuentes de agua y beba para energizarse. OTRA GRAN VENTAJA.
Si
lo que quieres es combinar una encantadora vista con buena comida, tendrás que ir a las terrazas siempre concurridas llenas de elegancia y amena conversación, todo esto es siempre un regalo para los ojos y el estómago. En realidad, ahí fue el momento cuando con Nicola, un amigo holandés, pude comer más porciones que lo que creí que mi estómago hubiera podido contener.
Gothic Renaissance Get plenty of water for you'll be walking lots. Nice stops in some cafes would have you enjoy delicious drinks before submerging into a gothic experience, which turns Prague into the most evocative medieval venue of Europe, or at least, that's my impression (Sorry, the connoisseurs! Oops). Some buildings have been constructed with so much passion that they seem to have been converted into gothic hotels right on the spot or this was again my impression when I would admire so many gothic settlements.
Renacimiento Gótico Asegúrese de tener suficiente agua porque estarán caminando harto. Las cafeterías elegantes en el recorrido le darán el chance de disfrutar un café delicioso. Hay tanto estilo gótico que creo que la hace el lugar más evocativo de la Europa
medieval, o al menos, esa fue mi impresión, qué pena con los que conocen más de mundo. Me atrevería a decir que muchos edificios fueron transformados en hoteles góticos, o al menos esa fue mi impresión de la tanta pasión por la arquitectura.
Prague Castle Excellent choice, you cannot miss it as all walking tours end nearby. The list of so many historical facts and anecdotes requires many megabytes of good memory; the one I went on featured multiple sections mainly the Old Royal Palace, some other palaces and cathedrals like St Vitus -which is massive, among others. I had the chance to attend a classical concert in one of the churches, which was beautifully performed by the most elegant orchestra members and the price of the tickets was just a contribution to the church. AGAIN, A PLUS OF PRAGUE.
Castillo de Praga Excelente opción: no puedes perderte los toures pues todos son cercanos. Alístese para pasar mucho tiempo en el tour y vacía tu memoria antes pues tantos hechos históricos y anécdotas te van a requerir muchos megabytes de buena memoria; en el que yo tomé presentaba secciones múltiples compuestas por el Palacio
Real, otros palacios y catedrales como San Vitrus , que es enorme, entre otros. Tuve la oportunidad de asistir a un concierto clásico en una de las iglesias; el concierto estuvo genial con unos miembros de orquesta tan elegantemente vestidos que fue un sueño y el precio del tiquete era solamente una contribución voluntaria a la iglesia donde se realizó. BIEN HECHO; PRAGA.
Lively art and Music scene But it was not the only concert. Out of the blue, I found myself listening to classical concerts and again, dreaming of a kind of improved life. that's right, the contribution again was for the fund on a voluntary basis.
Me pasaba que mientras estaba caminando, de pronto me encontraba en concierto a pleno aire libre y otra vez, me veía yo soñando de una vida llena de cultura. Las contribuciones son de acuerdo a lo que consideres que puedes dar.
The Bohemian capital it was ...and still is!!! It counts the largest beer consumption A good beer I tried was Pilsner Ursquell, quite cheap, well, everything is affordable in Prague so even if you want to buy an expensive beer,
you can.
I read on the net that the Czechs are the most habitual beer drinkers in the world but I am not one in the know, I only have Club Colombia beer once in a while, so I guess that's true. Did I see lots of pubs? Well, not many, I must say, or else, I was just looking for a non-alcoholic tour and didn't visit the right places.
Era la Capital Bohemian Y diría que todavía es... Las cifras indican que son los más grandes consumidores. Una que recuerdo bien es la Pilsner Ursquell, barata, pero bien, todo en Praga lo es. Así que si quieres irte por subir de categoría en cuanto a cerveza, lo puedes hacer pues SI SE PUEDE.
De verdad que sí leí que son grandes cerveceros, en fin, en todo el mundo los mayores, pero como yo solo me tomo mi Club Colombia de vez en cuando, puede ser que me equivoque. Debo decir que no vi muchas cervecerías, porque probablemente no fui a los lugares correctos, mi tour era no alcohólico, hehehe.
All in all, if there was a city I wouldn't mind being lost

Museo del Niño de Praga donde tienen pesebres de algunos países in, it would definitely have to be Prague. More than once, I couldn't believe my eyes, while walking on its cobblestone streets and looking forward to discovering new places or markets to eat, was magnificent. Indeed, walking and listening to all those street concerts was like dreaming. Did I get bored? Not a chance...Going past beautiful castles and admiring its breathtaking architecture while talking to the easygoing people, oh, too much to ask for!
Transport is great, covering every part of the city is the underground; but the only bad thing was that it is not good for vertigo sufferers...ME
No me importaría perderme en esta ciudad, o al menos si tuviera la elección, escogería a Praga. Caminar en sus calles empedradas y estar a la expectativa de nuevos lugares o mercados para comer fue excelente. En realidad, caminar y encontrar tantos conciertos inesperados lo hacían un sueño. No tengo recuerdos de haberme aburrido ni un minuto. Al contrario, caminando por esos castillos hermosos y admirando esa arquitectura que lo deja a uno con la boca abierta es demasiado pedir.
EL transporte genial y cubre cada parte de la ciudad, lo único malo del metro
es que no lo recomiendo para los que suframos de vértigo.
Why is it so cheap? Well, Prague still uses the crown which makes it cheaper than any other city in Europe, as a result, the Czhech cuisine, beer, hotels come across as quite interesting. I purchased some toothbrushes in the shape of the Eiffel Tower, which I thought, was mostly a decorative object but let me tell you, they were great quality and one of them has become my mum's favourite brush. Praga todavía usa la Corona como moneda, lo cual la hace mucho más barata que cualquier otra ciudad en Europa. Como resultado, la cocina checa, su cerveza y los precios de hoteles resultan muy interesantes. Me compré a un precio muy cómodo, unos cepillos de dientes en forma de la torre Eiffel, muy cute, para traerle a mi adorada madre; me pareció genial como un objeto decorativo, pero aparte de ser de muy buena calidad, todavía se conserva y se ha convertido en su cepillo preferido. PRAGA: 10 PUNTOS
Mucho wifi gratis en toda la ciudad.
Climate Prague has a humid continental climate; therefore, if you can, I would advise you to go during the summer, but then, prices will increase a bit; but if that's not possible, whenever you're visiting, It is better to check the weather first just to make sure. Otherwise, going during winter might be cheaper but then, you will have less time to visit as days would get shorter.
Clima Praga nos ofrece un clima húmedo continental; de esta manera, si pueden les aconsejo que vayan durante el verano, aunque ahí los precios subirían un poco. Si no es posible, cuando visiten, es mejor verificar el clima para estar seguro. La ventaja de ir en invierno es que todo será más barato y aun aquí, se tiene menos tiempo pues los días se hacen más cortos.
I loved the idea of leaving parking places to locals, that's nice as it shows a strong national sense of national identity, something other countries might take a cue from.
Me gusta la idea de que favorezcan a los locales, dándoles prioridad en cuanto al parqueo, eso es pertenencia nacional, de lo cual se inspirarían otros países..
And the verdict is...
The Charming Czech Capital City that's become music to my ears...and that, I want to say it at the top of my voice I believe the people from Prague match this title. Indeed, they are very nice and extremely helpful. On top of that, I felt there was so much freedom in Prague, like you can do or wear whatever you want and is all judgement-free, which gives it a great advantage over other destinations.
La Encantadora Capital Checa que ahora ya me suena a música celestial...y eso lo diré muy fuerte Creo que la gente los checos son muy simpáticos y le hacen honor a este atributivo, para ello son chéveres y bastante serviciales. Además de eso, sentí que había mucha libertad en Praga, como que me quedó la impresión de que allí, puedes hacer o llevar puesto lo que quieras sin ser juzgado, lo cual le da bastante ventaja, si se compara con otras naciones.
Some places I missed The National museum, the Jewel Dancing House, the botanical garden and ... and...
...well, the Sex Machine Museum was one
that I deliberately missed, but who knows? maybe next time for it would be hilarious to take some souvenirs to friends, no wonder why Prague is considered the second biggest porn market, but I don't blame them, people there are amazingly good looking!!!
Algunos lugares que me perdí... El museo nacional, la casa danzante, el jardín botánico y...Bien, el Museo del Sexo no estaba entre mis preferidos así que no fui, ¿pero quién sabe? puede ser la próxima vez porque sería interesante traerle recuerdos a los amigos, no causa sorpresa saber que Praga se considera como el segundo mercado más grande de porno, pero no los culpo porquee la gente el Praga es fascinantemente muy atractiva.

Me imagino que debe haber un ambiente nocturno salvaje pero ya que nos. estamos poniendo cada vez má viejos, esto se le deja a los jóvenes. Sin embargo, imagino que con tantos extranjeros visitando, debe ser interesante ir a una discoteca.
Volveré...????? I'm for sure going back to Prague as soon as I can for there are too many places I have missed, lots of parks, churches, castles and buildings, and once the pandemic is over.
Seguramente que regreso a Praga tan pronto como pueda porque hay demasiados lugares que me he perdido como muchos parques, castillos y edificios y una vez que se vaya la pandemia. Y los dejo con la oración al niño de Praga:
