The start of this vacation had a long drawn out day. We left home yesterday morning and drove to Toronto. Of course we left plenty early just to be on the safe side. We very easily located our parking lot and were shuttled to the airport with a few hours to spare. We always travel with reading material for just this reason. Our flight departed at 8:55 p.m. heading for Copenhagen. We arrived there with an hour and a half layover which was enough time for us to go through customs and find our departure gate to Athens. Both flights were good with very little turbulence.
Upon our arrival in Athens we caught a train into the city center where we would find our hotel. We did a little Sightseeing after getting off the metro. We visited Syntagma Square, where the Greek Parliament building is located and it's surrounding neighborhood. I can't imagine what the streets are like dusing the tourist high season because the streets are already crowded with people.
We located our hotel quickly with the aid of our 4G cell service and google maps. After checking in we realized how time flies and it was well
past dinner time. The desk attendant gave us a recommendation for dinner, which we welcomed. He said it's a place he, as well as other locals go, not on the tourist beat. It was excellent. Our dinners were pastitso, pasta and beef along with a Greek salad. We were also served a homemade dessert that was a type of a soft bar cookie with nuts in it and sesame seeds on top.
We then walked around the neighborhood streets which are lined with many shops, cafes and restaurants. The Street our hotel is on has several religious article shops which sell items for priests and churches. They have vestments, stoles, chalices, incense burners, candelabras and the usual religious articles we are accustomed to seeing. We are sitting our hotel room now with our balcony door open listening to Greek music from the restaurants on the street and the waiters shouting Opa and the patrons all clapping. It’s great to be in the center of Greek life.
It was a great beginning to our stay in Greece!

Wow!
Sounds adventurous already! Of course, I’m always interested to hear what’s on the menu for all of your meals! Hopefully you’re enjoying some good Greek wine while listening to “Opa!” Beautiful pictures!! Have a blast!
