Bumphead Parrotfish

Each of these 1-1.5m fish can eat 5 tons of coral each year. They school in groups of about 30 and swim around their territory browsing on the coral. They have jaws capable of eating rock, and they excrete vast quantities of fine powdery sand. This lowers the visibility in the water, damages the coral but builds up those white tropical beaches we love so much. Bumphead parrotfish are one of my favourite things to see when diving, in the perhentian Islands your chances of seeing them are pretty good! ps... please don't touch the fish!
