We are traveling over to Barcelona in July with our kids. What are the best areas to stay in? Places where we can walk around, nice restaurants, shops nearby, not to far from the metro.
Reply to this El Born is lovely - it's close to the centre (Ramblas) but has plenty of cafes and restaurants of its own. It's also handy for the metro. You could try looking for an apartment on holiday-rentals.co.uk or ownersdirect.co.uk.
We stayed on the opposite side of the Ramblas at Rambla de Raval - this area is cheaper but scruffier and the cafes are more for students than families.
Reply to this Thank you for the suggestions. Is it easy to get around the city on the metro?
Reply to this Yeah, when I was in BCN I didn't speak an ounce of Catalan or Spanish and only had a free tourist map to get me around. I was able to figure it out fairly quick and it was impressed with the speed and extensiveness of the network especially to the "major sites." Have fun!
Reply to this El Born is a good tip there is alot of good
cheap accomodation , it' a really good area in the centre and you have 3 or 4 metro station nearby...maybe it's better not really near to Santa Maria del Mar because in summer nights there are a lot of tourists every where and I think it's really hard to sleep. Eixample district it's really nice but quite expensive,
Barcelona it's a very beautifull city I love it!!!
Reply to this It is defenitely good to be in the city centre. You have all shops, restaurants and also the beach.
If you are going with your kids I would reccommend you to have a flat which will make you feel more like home in the city.
A good tip, if you want to know more about the city or if you want to look for an accommodation is to check out this web-site:
They rent out short-term and long-term flats in the city centre and also have other services which you can find out more about on their web-site.
I hope your family gets a good time in Barcelona!!! Reply to this Hello Carmen 😊
I think close to or on(if they have hotels on that street) the Ramblas would be the best place to stay.
There is lots of street entertainment with buskers etc and lots of restaurants and bars there.

Reply to this Thank you for all the suggestions and feedback.
We found a lovely apartment on Nou de La Rambla which sleeps up to 6 people at a very reasonably cost.

I believe it's a nice area, and very centrally located to everything. We are looking forward to it!

Reply to this Can anyone give me some information of places of interest in Barcelona and madrid
Reply to this try the gothic quarter or Born. Both are close to everything and you can get some great value apartments for your family. I've used this company
barcelona accommodation before but there are many others to choose from.
Reply to this The best place to stay for a family is undoubtely a
Boquería just down the ramblas. Reply to this I am coming to Barcelona in October 2011 for a western mediterranean cruise. We are staying one night in barcelona before travelling home, and we need some help with the area. I have found one hotel - the <snip> and wanted to know if it is near things to walk too and visit? Also Red Bus Tour - is this close to connect to the hotel?
Reply to this The best area to stay in Barcelona is around Plaça Catalunya, the city center. You can stay in the Gothic Quater or in the Eixample. This site can helps you to find your hotel http://www.bestlocationhotels.com/hotels/barcelona/en/ . It was very helpfull for me.
Reply to this I have been to Barcelona once in my life and staying in the city center is somewhat expensive. I have came across a good travel guide at
http://www.sletoh.com/plan/Barcelona-guide-163874.html
However, I must say that doing some research on the internet is almost necessary before your trip as it allows you to understand the place before you arrive.
