Hmmm...I would hv loved to travel along but time constraints...rather...I can help you with a travel plan free of any charge....on completely buddy basis..i travelled this area last year...cut the varanasi as its too crowded and getting not-so-holy now 😊..

Go to Delhi...hang around in Delhi for three days maximum...leave for jaipur...see jaipur...two days maximum...take either a tour of rajasthan tht is udaipur, jaisalmer, jodhpur -- 1 week minimum...
Go to agra from Jaipur...6 hrs by bus...(they claim it to be 4 hrs..but its not so)...Agra is just one day trip...check out ,fatehpur sikri near agra..if you want to spend another day...
From Agra head for varanasi....two days to see around...thats' all
So all in all --- 3 days delhi, 2 days jaipur, 1 week rajasthan,2 days agra = 14 days...Take a flight off to Bangalore....5-19 jan...
post for further help.... Reply to this

hi,
What would you suggest roughly it would cost for me to do that trip you planned? Im not keen on luxury and hostels are fine with me. I might skip The Taj Mahal, but would certainly do the Rajasthan tour.
So, just food - accomodation and travel expenses. Thank you

DONT SKIP TAJ IF YOU ARE IN INDIA....
Delhi -- A nice hotel stay in Paharganj area(where most foreign tourists stay) should cost you around 1400 rs.per day hotel...
DELHI IS FULL OF TOUTS and SCAMS...so pre-book things if possible with the hotel where you stay.
All in all, Delhi stay plus sightseeing plus food and drink shouldnt cost you more then 3500 RS.for three days or nearby.
Book a train ticket to Agra from Delhi (take shatabdi express, best and superfast), cost you around 350-400 i guess in AC chair car with breakfast.
Once you reach Agra, don't book hotel, coz you really don't need to stay there for a night.
Bargain a deal with some Tuktuk (auto is what they call here) and he would show you around Taj and other places for 400 Rs. through the day....BARGAIN HARD....
Pre-book a bus ticket from Agra to Jaipur, an overnight journey.
The bus you take must leave agra by late evening and reach there early morning, so that you don't need to waste the night searching for hotel. The ticket in bus costed me 300 Rs i remember, an ok bus.
Morning reach jaipur, take a hotel. Now jaipur is a bit on the costlier side sometime, so try to pre-book hotel for jaipur if you are sure of your arrival still a decent hotel with AC should cost somwhere between 1200 to 2000 Rs.per day
Again in Jaipur, ask the hotel guys to arrange for a sightseeing, and they will do it.
Sightseeing of jaipur must include -- Amber Fort, Jaigarh Fort,Nahargarh fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Elephant Ride...
Other options can be added but don't miss these places. -- The tuktuk ride to all these places shouldn't cost you more then 500 Rs.
Do take dinner the way locals do...At Chaukhi Dhani where you get to see local culture and eat local food. = 400 Rs. entry plus food.
Jaipur trip should cost you nicely around 4000 For two days, but you can always cut it to 2500 if you pre-book and don;t get stuck with touts.
Spend day 1 day 2 in jaipur, and day 2 evening leave by a late night train to udaipur. You have to book in advance.
Ticket will cost you - 300 Rs. in sleeper class and 700 around in AC class.
Udaipur well once you reach in morning, head for a hotel, don;t spend more then 1000 or 1200 in hotel and get ready quickly to see around the city.
400 Rs. is what i paid for a whole day ride by tuktuk to the city covering all the main places.
I think udaipur is nothing beyong one day trip. Udaipur trip will cost you another 2000 Rs.
You see the main places in udaipur by evening and if possible book a bus or train to jodhpur for late evening so that you arrive in Jodhpur by morning
Well, for jodhpur, one day would be fine, and should cost you around 1500 rs. and jaisalmer should be your main destination after seeing jodhpur.
Jaisalmer, a known tourist place, has got high rates.
I can ask my bro who used to be in rajasthan to help me with the rates, in a day for Jaisalmer, as i have never been there.
Ok, considering that you book HOSTELS (youth hostels and HI hostels, if you have a card) then your accomodation cost will com down to almost half.

Accomodation total -- for delhi ,jaipur, udaipur, jodhpur = 8000 Rs. roughly, and variable
Travel between cities of delhi, agra, jaipur, udaipur, jodhpur = 2000 Rs., i am keeping the AC travel in bus between udaipur and jodhpur and jaipur and udaipur.
Food shouldnt cost more then 200-250 Rs. per day = 2000 Rs. between Delhi to Jodhpur, and this may go up or down depending on personal choice of food.
Travelling around the city = 1000 for delhi, 700 for two days jaipur, 500 for udaipur, 400 for Agra and 400 for Jodhpur = 3000 Rs.
Total = 15000 Rs.
Add few hundreds for tickets entry and other small expenses.
Keep a budget of at least 25,000 Rs. for a pretty decent trip.
Post more for further info.
Regards
A V

Ok...
Prebookings -- for hotel reservation i would suggest two most commonly used websites -- makemytrip.com and yatra.com
or else choose a hostel from Youth hostels india or Hostelling international website...
For trains, use the same makemytrip or yatra.com website ( revert for any help with booking, to explain you the coach system here in india)
For buses -- www.redbus.in, and www.ticketvala.com and you can also try for the above mentioned websites...
All payments have either credit or debit card options but i suppose some of them dont accept international cards so you have to check accordingly.
What's the estimated budget you have in your mind ?

I'll be in India the end of December to mid January. I'll be in the south mostly, but planning to go to Delhi from the 4th to the 7th or so. It would be great to have someone to tour with and maybe share expenses. Reply to this
