Peoples Experiences with this? Safe?

I'm interested in peoples experiences while trying to form or meet up with travel companions. Is this safe?

So, I'm just wondering if there are any safety measures involved with finding travel companions on the internet. I guess I'm more interested however in people that actually went ahead and did it and what their experience was like. Reply to this

I've met few people from TB. It always the same issue as in our daily life....if you meet somebody in a public place, and make your homeworks properly, nothing should happen to you. The rule is simple, it's called common sense. Reply to this

Hi Michael,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

I've also met quite a few TBers (not Peter yet though) - the advantage with this approach is that you often already know them in a sense, or at least can check out there profile and blog history.

If you haven't already, check out the 'guidelines' and 'album' threads at the top of the Looking for Travel Companions forum. Reply to this

@PA Leslie, Thanks, I guess but it seems you are immediately inviting this person to a much more personal experience. I mean sure you can have coffee when you first meet and make it public. But overall the plan is to travel and this can already place you in a foreign place. What if you want to backpack out in the canopy, just you and said stranger.

@Jo Trouble - So do the people usually turn out to match their writing style and the personality that their writing conveys? Reply to this

Put it simply, I would not go an a multi days trip or an adventure trip with somebody I have no idea of. First come the coffee....than we see...

If you want to meet others without taking a risk...this is call group travel...it does exist. I met very nice people while going to Antartica...you do not go there on you own...other point, I dive on liveaboard and share cabins if i'm on my own...this is "a total stranger"...but we have two things to make us safe....first he is a diver as me...second...the boat have his personnal details...enough to make you safe...I think!

Now, I've got a friend great friend for the last 16 years...he lives in Paris...and we met at a night bus station in Tokyo...life is about experiences!

You don't stay safe by staying in your little cocoon....but it's not safe either not to use common sense... Reply to this
