Hey - I'm Chris, a 24 year old guy from Newcastle, UK, currently stuck in Sydney and eager to buy a van and get away on a mammoth 6 month road trip around the WHOLE of Australia.
Im looking for 3-4 guys/girls to buy a van with me in Sydney or Melbourne and share an experience of a lifetime - camping, sun, sand, surf, campfires, bbq's music, beer and DRIVING!!
Briefly, my aim is to get to Perth via The Great Ocean Road, Adelaide and the Nullabore Crossing for mid August - Up the west coast to Broome via Kalbari National Park, Monkey Mia, Ningaloo Reef and Karijini National Park by mid September - over to Darwin via the Gibb River Road, Bungle Bungles, Wolf Creek, Kununurra and Litchfield National Park by mid October - across to Cairns via Kakadu National Park, Arnhem Land National Park, Uluru and Katherine by mid November then back down to Sydney via the east coast for New Year to sell the van.
Obviously, I have missed a lot out but thats the main things I'm hoping to see on the trip. I've done a similar trip before but the last time I did it over 10 months - I'd say i'm fairly experienced as far as oz goes and I know a lot of things we could do along the way - like 3 day self guided canoe trips and 'mini' de-tours.
Im hoping to spend around 3-5000 oz dollars on a van or even a 4x4 (for some off roading) which isn't much spread across 3-4 people, especially when we can get some if not all of our money back when we sell it again after New Year.
If you're interested in joining me, or if you are planning a similar trip, I'd love to hear from you. Im on facebook - http://www.facebook.com/chris.manuel6 if you want to know more- or email me at
sorry, I dont have an australian number yet.
All the best,
Chris

Reply to this Hi chris,
I've just done a similar trip and thought i'd let you know that if i did it again, i'd definately buy a 4x4. Its more expensive but there was alot of places we couldn't get to in a regular van, particularly if your going to the national parks along the west coast. We found that the places that are hardest to get to are usually the best so a 4x4 is perfect.
Have fun! Monica
