Looking for a free volunteering opportunity in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi or anywhere really.
Hello everyone,
My name is Andy Barker, I am 23 and graduated from University last year with a History degree. I have been traveling in Kenya (mainly Samburu province) and Uganda since early January helping a friend make films for charities, he has however now gone back to the UK and left myself alone here in Kampala looking for something productive to do with my time. I have very little money and need to find an opportunity that provides both accommodation and food. I am willing to try my hand at pretty much anything but would love to find a place where I can get close and interact with the local community. I will be free from mid June and have no restrictions on where I can travel to, anywhere in East Africa really.
Look forward to hearing from some of you hopefully.
Andy
Reply to this Hello Andy,
If you have a good access to Internet, I really sugest you to visit and sign in the website http://www.planetngo.org . This website (created by the organization Planet'NGO) lists several hundreds of small NGOs from all over the world where you can search a NGO according to your criteria (the location, the field of intervention, amenities offered, etc.)
If you find a NGO (in the website or not), you should either evaluate it on the website or first register it and then evaluate it in order to help the next people that would be in your case !
Good luck for your research,
Antoine
Reply to this I've been looking for a free volunteering op in East Africa for early 2011. I havent come up with much, but idealist.org seemed like a good way to start. let me know if you find something good
Reply to this There's a guy at my hostel here in Nairobi that is volunteering in Kibera teaching English and Social Studies to children at St. Christine's school. He has to pay for his own accommodation and food, but he didn't have to pay anything to the organization. I went with him to the school one day and met the teachers and kids and it seems really worthwhile.
He did it through KiberaUK. Their website is http://www.kibera.org.uk/
Hope this helps.

Reply to this i'm a veterinary medicine student ( a girl). Is there any place in Africa or middle east where I could volunteer and not have to pay loads of money for willing to help? Does anyone know of a place that truly needs volunteers? I want to work with animals, not building anything or fundrasing or teaching.
