Reply to this Hey, I was in Central America this past summer and there was such a hype about Honduras for obvious reasons that us Northerners see on the news. We were advised not to go there and it hindered some of our travel plans. I know a lot gets skewed from the media and such, but is it safe now to travel to Honduras, especially over the border... in a car?
Reply to this When i traveled from Guatemala to Honduras in Aug 2008 in a car we had trouble. THe safety wasn't an issue but the cops were bad. There were 4 of us total and the driver was a guatemalan but still got pulled over and searched 3 times in our there and back again trip. They tried to get us to give them money to let us go but we just flat refused, they threatened to take our drivers license but they couldn't take all four of our licenses so they left us alone.
Enjoy the trip but be ready to be stopped, searched and hassled! Still well worth the drive and the hassle, make sure you SCUBA in Utila.
