I am looking to go to from Lima to Cuzco, Aguas Calientes (hot springs here?), Machu Picchu at sunrise. I would like to see Inti Raymi on the 24th. My Spanish is horrid. I am on a budget. I am in Lima now and just about researched myself silly on accomodations, transports, entry fees, bus or plane, guided or unguided, etc. I have reservations as a woman traveling alone. Es peligroso? = the extent of my Spanish level.... I think these destinations could be done more cost effective spontaneously, but that smidge of fear holds me back. Wanna sync up and do some journeying as a team? I would feel more confident with an English-speaking, easygoing, yet adventurous partner I click with. Coaching, suggestions, advice, etc. sought. Where are those hot springs anyway? And, will there be any rooms this time of year if I wait until I´m there, or will I be stuck freezing in the barn with burros?
Reply to this I can't offer to join you afraid because I'm headed in the opposite direction, but I can offer some advice. I've just got to Lima and i'm a female travelling alone. If you can't manage to find anybody to travel with I wouldn't worry too much, safety in Peru is a lot better than other countries in South America. Also, Machu Picchu is such a popular destination I'm sure that if you're sociable in hostels you'll find other people who are going there. The hot springs you mentioned, I assume you mean Aguas Calientes? It's a town a few hours from Cusco where Machu Picchu is. You can either trek there or take the tourist train, then once at Aguas Calientes its a 20 minute bus ride up the mountain to Machu Picchu itself, or a 1 hour hike. There are definitely going to be rooms left in Cusco, its a very touristy place. I can recommend Pirwa Backpackers if you like, I stayed there and liked it. The only thing that's too late to book is the Inca trail although you could do an alternative route or take the train or bus to Aguas Calientes. I hope that's some help, good luck! and don't worry so much!
