I need at least 4 people to start a trip to the Great Wall ( if alone or less than 4 peopleyou can always sign up and i put you with another group). The price is 125rmb per person (for Couchsurfer member) and 150rmb (for non-members) at all time to pay to the driver once you are coming back to Beijing in the evening. Keep in mind that I only arrange transportation and entrance tickets for the Wall are to be paid individually:

Jinshanling – 50rmb
Simatai – 40rmb
Lil Bridge – 5rmb

All trips start at Dongzhimen Subway Station … you take exit C and wait by the McDonals. The bus leaves at 8am and should come back at the same location around 6pm the same day (depending on your walking pace on the wall).

What is the tour???

Hike from Jinshanling (金山岭) to Simatai (司马台)

The majority of the wall east of Jinshanling is also unrestored. The hike from Jinshangling to Simatai is roughly 10km. It is a significant hike in distance but more so in the elevation change, but you will be rewarded with spectacular views and a good day of exercise. Expect to spend anywhere from 2.5 hours to 6 hours on the wall, depending on your fitness level, ambition and frequency of photo ops. When you are half way between the two sections, there are hardly any tourists. In fact, more foreign tourists are seen doing this thorough hike than domestic Chinese tourists. Comfortable shoes and clothes are needed, as you will be hiking on moving bricks sometimes combined with steep climbs. Water and snacks should be in your backpack. But you will find some local vendors selling water and sometimes snacks on the wall. When you descend down from Simatai, there is a zip line available for RMB40. It's roughly 400m, and is over a river. It will take you down to the other side of the river, and includes a short boat ride back to catch your ground transport. During the middle of this hike, collectors will charge you again because you are entering another part of the Wall. If you are going between sections, there is little you can do about it other than turn back.

If interested in the tour and you want more information please respond to my emailbox at or if already in China call me at

Jeff

It sure is unrestored, very rough walking in places! We were at this section of wall last week, I hurt my ankle after climbing the wall the day beofre so had to bail out, but my husband and a friend did the trek, he is very fit and found it really hard going! They did it 3 hours, apparently thats a very fast time. You need to be prepaired for it, its very tough, and mind blowingly steep in places.

He loved the experience though, and the photographs he took were amazing, he said the views were spectactular, and he wouldnt have missed it for the world!
