Looking for someone to travel with this summer.

Hello there,

I am hoping to travel to China between the end of april and end of june. Currently travelling alone and would love to hear from anyone planning on travelling aroudn the same time. I have been round in circles about exploring Thailand/Laos/Vietnam and then into China, or China through Tibet into Nepal, so I am very open to suggestions.

Would be very grateful for any reply.
Thanks,
Sophie.

China is awesome! I lived in Guangdong Pr. last year for 1 year. I am going back this summer the end of May till the beginning of August!

Where are you planning on going?

Sorry for the late reply.
Im very very unsure of my plans at the moment. Far too indecisive!
Have been looking at doing some voluntary work in Thailand then travelling through Cambodia and Vietnam into China and possibly doing an organised cycling tour from Guiyang to Yangshuo. http://www.exodus.co.uk/holidays/mcb.html?return=cT1wc2VhcmNoJmtleXM9Y2hpbmE=
Im really trying to cram in as much as i can in not very much time unfortunately.
Where would you recommend going and what are your plans for your trip?

Well weather wise you are better off going south to Malaysia and Indonesia... But my favorite part of China that I have been to was Yunnan Province. I was in the northern corner bordering Tibet and it was beautiful. Lots of landscape and minorities:-)

I have also been to Yangshuo and that is a fun place, I would recommend 3-4 days tops. Definitely skip Guilin - It's a shit hole... In Thailand I would recommend Kao Yai National Park. I was there in the jungles for 4 days and say wild elephants and gibbons and horn bills...

I might go to Vietnam for 2 weeks. I have not been there yet so I cannot say much:-)

Cambodia I took a bus to from Bangkok (4 hrs to the border) and then went to Siem Riep an saw all the temples and hired a boat on the Tonle Sap and went swimming :-) (Didn't catch any diseases)

I am thinking of going to the east coast of China, then to a friend in Chengdu... And then stay with friends in Zhuhai and Shenzhen...

Malaysia is heavenly but it's in the wrong direction for you.... I will probably end up there in July 😊
You can still avoid most of the monsoons if you go to the south eastern coast of Thailand - i.e. Ko Tao or Ko Pangan etc...

I have the same problem... So much to see but not enough time...

Where are you going to volunteer? Doing what?

Cheers😊

Sounds like an awesome trip. I am planning on going on an excursion to China this fall to include a trek to the Everest Base camp in the Himalayas. I won't be going until November as I have to finish my degree before I head out...

If you don't want to travel alone, I'd highly recommend checking out "GAP adventures" - Great company based out of Canada that does adventure trips (I went to Costa Rica with them last year, awesome experience). The prices aren't bad; you meet great like-minded solo travelers in your group, & have access to indispensable local guides who are jolly good fun. Just google GAP adventures: you can't go wrong with them.

Otherwise, the best time to meet people willing to travel are when you are actually there. i.e. hostels and the like.

Enjoy China!
Derek
