Destination Uruguay

Dear readers

We're travelling from Canberra to Uruguay in October and are now starting to plan for the trip. The return air fare will probably come in around AU$2000 by Qantas or LAN Chile from Sydney to Buenos Aires in Argentina. We'll take a ferry across the River Plate to the old town of Colonia in Uruguay, and then a bus to Montevideo. Easy! But how do we get from Canberra to Sydney International Airport? Should we ride our bikes? Take the bus? Have someone drive us? Catch a train to Sydney Central, and then an airport bus? Get a cheap flight? 😊

Some of you reading this may not be aware that the Argentinian and Uruguayan flags both feature a yellow sun with a human face. No points for guessing which one has the widest grin! I dare you to show me a flag more original than that of Uruguay!

Oh, and if you know of any great novels set in Uruguay (available in English), I'd love to hear.

Bye for now.

Uruguay Novels
Hi, Try "The Invisible Mountain" by Carolina De Robertis and/or "The Tree of Red Stars" by Tessa Bridal. Both deal with coming of age issues for young girls and their families against the historical background of 20th century Uruguay and offer nice descriptions of the daily life and customs of the country. Both are well written and flow nicely. Anthony (USA)
