The coastal area of Peru is extremely dry with an average of about 3 inches of rain in a year, yet in Salaverry it was the home to one of the the most spectacular cities and the largest construction of mud in the New World. Chan-Chan was once the capital of the Chimu Cilivation, predecessors of the Incas.

Within the city of Salaverry there are the reamins of an old temple. The walls are covered in religous drawings from teh Chimu civilization

We took the ramp to the top of the temple structure about 2 stories high

You will see these motor bike taxis in most smaller communities. They are the favored means for the locals.

This picture provides some idea of how big the main square was. The city walls enclosed 8 square miles of buildings.

Across many of the buildings you will see this net like representation. The peeople of Chan-Chan like the People of Salaverry depended on fishing and so there is a lot of these net representations and images of fish on the walls.
