Hotel: Sonesta Posada del Inca Lake Titicaca (Puno, Peru) $65 Yesterday was pretty much a down day for us; we had been hitting the sights pretty hard for the past week and needed a day to relax. The altitude was a convenient excuse for not getting up to too much! We did go into town for a few hours and wandered around the markets, buying a few blankets and other souvenirs. It was NYE and the locals were selling bags of confetti, charcoal, and other festive items. Most Peruvians celebrate NYE with their families, rather than out in the streets. It was a pretty uneventful NYE, we were still feeling a bit under the weather. There was a good fireworks show out over the lake as the clock struck midnight. We felt much better this morning, ... read more

It has been quite a while since I last wrote. A lot has been happening, so there'll be a few entries in a row, sorry that they haven't been more regular. We decided that we had seen enough of Puno. The Uros Islands were nice and all, but the town and hotel left a lot to be desired. The room was on a noisy street corner and the water only worked occasionally. I had somehow managed to get myself a stomach bug, and when you throw in a bit of diareha with non-flushing toilets, things get ugly pretty quick. So on Monday we got a First Class bus (name of company, not to be confused with level of service) from Puno down to Cusco. We were collected from the hotel at about 7:15am and headed around ... read more

Firstly, thanks to everyone that has sent messages and left comments. Please be aware that I usually only have a small amount of time to spend on the net checking my messages, so if I don't respond right now, I will when we get stuck in another hole like Nazca and have some spare time. Saturday night, 7pm, we got into Puno, the main Peruvian port on the shore of Lake Titicaca. As soon as we got off the bus we could feel that we were at nearly 13000ft. It was a combination of the dry mouth, the foggy headache, and the amount of effort required to do anything that gave it away. That night consisted of getting a quick bite to eat at a nearby Italian Pizzeria and heading straight to bed. Sunday morning we ... read more

Hola from Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca (stop sniggering at the back). I'll keep it short and sweet today but we do have photos. From Potosi we went to La Paz, the highest capital city in the world via Oruro where our truck was broken into (none of our stuff was taken but others in our group were not so lucky). La Paz was a hectic city where all life seemed to be happening on the streets at maximum speed. We did a city tour and learnt that Bolivia has had more revolutions than presidents and saw the bullet holes from last years revolution (that wasn't in the guide book). The second day we were there we went mountain biking. Serious downhill mountain biking. Starting at 4,900m we dropped 3500m downhill over 64km along ... read more
