Gone potty!

Headed to the pre-Incan site of Sipan this morning in a rather intersting mini-van which seems to be the main form of public transport here. The site is still being excavated but the workers seem to have no problem stopping to talk to the tourists. Only Spanish speaking guides so we just went round reading the boards although the person who wrote them had an interesting grasp of English to say the least. It was actually easier to translate the Spanish than to try and decipher the English!


The grave sites had been left with replicas of the bodies and treasures that had been found so you get some idea of how it looked. The finds are in the Sipan museum in Lambayeque. No idea why they're not in a museum in Sipan or even Chiclayo but logic doesn't seem to be anyone's strong point in South America! Went shopping at the market stalls that crop up everywhere here and bought more jewellery (what else!) before catching a mini-bus back to Chiclayo.



Caught another mini-bus heading to Lambayeque when we got back. Naturally, the site and the museum are in opposite direction from each other! Amazing museum in an incredibly fake, bright red mock temple. The nasty woman at the gates wouldn't let us pull the 'but we're students' ploy so we ended up paying a whole ten soles (roughly $3) to get in. Absolutley extortionate! Spent an hour just in the Lord of Sipan exhibit and had to practically run through the rest of the museum. Got a bus back to Chiclayo for the evening as we couldn't get a bus to Cajamarca that night.
