Inca Kola
Inca Kola tastes like someone disolved Smarties in some water. Day five in Cusco and today is hot!!! The last couple days I have felt comfortable enough to leave my casa and venture out into the city on my own- usually I just hang out at school and wait until someone else is going back to the compound. Taxis are super cheap and you get to see your life flash before your eyes several times. Seems like most of my stress comes from taking taxis (or rather from not being able to communicate with the driver YET) so I just decided to walk. The area I am staying in is called San Sebastion aka Dogville. There are so many mangy dogs all over the place that I was thankful on Friday when it rained because that meant I did not hear dog fights all night long. It takes an hour to walk from my place to the city center but it´s a straight shot with lots to look at. I have noticed a lot of VW bugs- they seem to be everywhere.
I have become quite fond of my home stay. I have a nice clean room painted green with orange curtians and a bathroom next door with a shower
The Condor
There is a very intersting story about this Condor- I will add it later, for now all you need to know is this is MY part of town. AND a shower curtian. It is more of a compound with rooms surrounding a courtyard and the main hub of the action being the kitchen. Manchi, is the boss around there and cooks all the meals. For breakfast you can ask for a fried egg but she says that runny eggs give you salmanilla, there is also yummy fresh bread and instant coffee. Sunday must be a special day because today I was offered milk with my coffee. Lunch is the largest meal which consists of a soup that has some sort of pasta in it and the second course is rice and vegtables- here potatoes are a vegtable- and a hunk of meat. So, ya that´s right rice and potatoes every day (twice). Dinner is left overs from lunch and seemingly she will serve it to you whenever you get home. She calls me Annita, and stands in the corridor yelling up to me, "Annita, cena (dinner)." I can always tell when she is talking to me because she speaks super LOUD.
I arrived on Wednesday and was taken straight to the school where I met a whole mess of teachers and students. The school is very international
Girl with LLama
I paid for this one it was just too cute. and there are people from Quebec, Austrailia, Holland, and the US, I was told yesterday a new chica just moved in above me from S. Africa. There is a huge age range too so it is pretty comfortable. On Wednesday night I have cooking class and Tuesday and Thursday is Salsa class. I have 2 hours of grammar a day and 2 hours of practical. Practical is of course my favorite. My teachers name is MiMi, she also lives at the compound and is the daughter of Manchi. We walk around town and she points at stuff and tells me the names- the second day I caught on and decided to write stuff down as we walk. I have also been told she knows where and how to get all the best deals on goods so I am looking forward to more "practice".
That is all for now- I am going to attempt to post some photos along with this post. Adios.
