Trekkers in the JungleTrekkers in the JungleTrekkers in the Jungle

The group on one of the treks in Tambopata National Reserve
Arrived in Cusco today from the jungle town of Puerto Maldonado after spending 3 days at the jungle lodge known as Refugio Amazonas. What an experience. First of all we had to take a 4 hour boat trip up the River Tambopata. The boat was a glorified canoe with a large engine at the back and rolled from side to side. Life jackets were provided.
The lodge is a large timber structure running over 2 floors and completely open plan. The bedrooms are in 4 blocks adjacent to the main building. There is no electricity, hot water or doors. All very communal. A powerful torch is a necessity at night.
During the day the temperature rose to about 38C and the humidy was in the region of 80. Needless to say our jungle treks started very early in the morning and late in the afternoon. We usually spent about 4 or 5 hours out treking in the morning and a couple in the afternoon. The cold shower was very welcome on our return. I must have drank gallons of water to replace that lost. During the treks saw lots of different birds, plants and trees. One night we went out on the river alligator spotting. Fortunately. we only saw youngsters as opoosed to the big bruts
Today came back down the river in torrential rain. Now I know why it is called the rain forest!!
Caught flight to Cusco and here we are. Start exploring tomorrow

Hey Dad!
Wow!! sounds like your having a hell of a time, good job you left mother at home, think it might kill her off! That is a mighty tree you're standing under, haven't seen any like that around here. Do they eat the alligators? apparently they make a very good burger. By tame comparison I saw a seal in the dart today, followed me from longmarsh to the riverside cafe, a very heavy breather indeed. Do hope you're getting on with the fellow trekkers...it all sounds rather intimate. All well here, gig in brum was a triumph, many of the 'fans' excited about seeing us in holland, seems that this festival is a mecca for the lovers of metal. Writing lots of new songs of my own, which is always a pleasure. Saw India, sweet as usual, but of course the center of attention! Thinking of you lots, take good care of yourself and don't over do it! all my love...George.xxxx
