Sunset at Montañita
The surfing capital...if only I could surf ::....Before i get into full swing again, I had the craziest day at la escuela today. I arrived, and we had a massive choir rehersal (ive got a feeling there's some kind of concert coming up, hmmm, not sure about that...) Somehow, I avoided burning at the beach, then yesterday I got very burnt somewhere, I dont know how, it wasnt that sunny....so anyway, my cheeks and nose were a litle (umm quite) shiny and red, very attractive I must say, and all the teachers were teling me their little healing tricks...I thought I had escaped until at break time this crazy lady approached me from the school garden with a lump of aloe vera cactus in her hand, split in half, so all the gunky goodness was glooping out...she then comenced to wipe it all over my face whilst I wasn't quite with it ukk! What she neglected to tell me was that it dries up and makes you crispy, and even worse, turns you yellow. I dont know which was worse, to red or yellow. I think I got more strange loks when I was yellow to be honest. Unfortunatel, the school doesnt possess a mirror, so I
Absolutely knackered........
Me and Sophie after a 10 hour journey to Cuenca. was unaware of this until I got home....so I spent 4 hours at school being yellow, and I then walked the streets of Cuenca with a yellow head. Hmmm. Also at school, we painted a room a strange shade of green, which i immediately got ALL over me, so you can imagine I was a picture....
....Also, I think, fingers crossed, I am rid of my amebas. Woop! During the past week, I have been imagining a battle going on inside me, little amebas (which I have decided are 10 legged creatures with big heads and sharp crazy teeth, sneering, wearing metallic hard hats and carrying their little spears saying "grrrr!!") fighting head on with my antibiotics, ( who I decided were hundreds of miniture johnny depps, in his pirates of the caribbean get up, wielding his sword and showing them whats what!) Of course, mr depp has won the battle of Sophie.
So Mindo. Where was I? Zip wiring? After this I was very very muddy, and my white trousers were spattered....Mindo is also a very natury place, so we went to a orchid/humming bird farm thingy, not my choice, but it onnly cost a dollar. Quitepretty I spose,
Quito reunion night out!
Can you see my tongue?! Can you can you?! What do people think? but the humming birds wouldnt fly still so I could take a picture, which got me in a bit of a strop. heh. We then decided to have a little fiesta in our wooden hostel on the masive balcony, definately the most scenic party I've been to! One fatal flaw though, we had to get a bus to Latacunga at 6am....it has never been harder to drag myself out of bed.
Latacunga...you wouldnt mind if you missed it I have to say. It was more a stop over to avoid a crazy bus trek. Successful though, cos I bought a gigantic hoodie which saved me the next dayy, and I also had some amazing egg soup. (I was still struggling to eat solids with my tongue...) My most powerful memory of Latacunga was its smell. Not the most pleasant...heh. but there were reasons I think. Because theres a massive market, lots of food is around, especially food that was being prepared for easter. "MMMM" I hear you cry, it must be chocolate eggs! But no, they dont exist here, in fact when you try to explain what one is, people look at you like you're insane! Instead, the ecuadorians enjoy
Flores
In the orchid garden a nice special soup on eatser sunday, which is made from 10 types of grain and peas....and smoked dried fish. Which explains the smell. Also the best and worst sight we saw was just before we got on the bus to leave...a man, cracking open a sheeps skull, to get the the juicy brain inside and suck it out..mmmm...whatever floats your boat I spose. Not a delicacy Im desperate to try...
Now our next stop was absolutely fantastico. Imagine, getting off a bus, and walking straight into clouds, high up in the middle of nowhere, and all there is, is mountains and fields, and the bus driving away, and there just being an immense silence. There was nobody around, apart from a curious looking man who just just in the mist in the distance, with a crazy looking hat on, just staring at us. After gathering our stuff, and our heads, we trekked up this pebbly track, and got to a town, se llama Quilatoa. The town is just a couple of hostels, a shop, about 6 houses, a vollyball court ( yup, very strange...) and a gigantic volcano crater, which is now flooded, creating a massive sunken lake.....
Mat with an umbrella balanced on his nose...
Some people were more interested in the flowers than others...heheh ....more to come chicos......besos XXX
