Caldera is a small and quiet port town in northen Chile.
The town is not so famous as a tourist destination so far, but around the town, breathtaking sceneries and unique experience are waiting for you.

you can see many amazing layers which the earth made taking long time. there you can feel the movement of the earth.

fossiles
fossiles are found everywhere, so easily, because once here was the bottom of the sea, and coast line has been changing gradually. all of them are so precious.

If you are lucky, you can find this kinds of fossiles.
(it is prohibited to take fossiles as a private property. These belong to a museum.)

Layers in the park
a project of the paleontological park is undergoing where you can see the real fossiles, in the middle of the desert.
one of the most amazing experience for me.

Indigenous people's house
One of archeological sites.
more than 1500 years ago, indigenous people lived in the house of rocks.

Indigenous people's drawings
Drawings of Guanaco, a kind of llama, mules which are very valuable in the desert.
There are several sites where you can see this kind of drawings by indigenous people thousands years ago.

Sanctuary for indigenous people
Drawings are found in this kind of rocky area, which are thought some kinds of sanctuary for them.

wild seals
you can see so many wild seals.
this one, you can see that mum is giving milk for her babies.

Desert the Andes
the Andes, about 2000 meters high.

Green river in the desert.
There is no water in the river, but it flows under the ground so that plants can live.
