Well my friends it is close to the end of this trip and I thought I would wrap it up with another blog about some of the other days and pictures I have had and taken in the last week or so.It is amazing the time has gone by so quickly, as everyone says I am sure.First let me tell you about the city concert. There was an arts festival here last weekend with bands playing in the parks and some exhibitions and childrens activities. One of the more interesting events was a concert last sunday night beginning at 9.This was the day Michael and I had been to the wine valley so when we got back to town and he picked up his wife and sister in law I was dropped off at my apt.I wanted to be home and get up on the roof for the event and since I had met my new neighbour,an american from san francisco,I knocked and suggested we head up to the roof. She agreed and with wine in hand up we went. The instruments for the concert were the city church bells and the horns of the ships in the harbour and at 9 sharp it started
with bells tolling around the city and various horns blowing.I am not sure I could follow the tune but it was amazing, woven into the sounds were trumpets blown from various spots unseen. The horns blew at various times and various intervals and bells chimed from different steeples at different times patching together to make the concert.Truly unique and from our buildings rooftop quite extraordinary!
Other events on the weekend included some pretty good concerts in Anibal Pinto plaza with a Chilean Celtic band! yes celtic with pipes and penny whistles and fiddle as well as guitar and base and of course vocals.Who knew I would hear the drone of pipes down here.In some parks kids plated in areas cleverly set up and decorated with empty bottles to provide a ceiling and colour.I even ran into a wedding party on the pier, having pictures taken.
I have been to Vina a few times when the sun shines and have enjoyed the salt breezes and watching the surf pound onto the rocks and beach. Not for the faint of heart to swim here, between the bone chilling cold and the crashing surf.It is no wonder that there is always a red flag
on the beach!
I was sitting reading a book the other day and I heard the sound of chanting in the distance, as it got louder and closer I thought it was a demonstration or supporters of a soccer team rallying but when they came in sight it was sailors from the navy in training running through the streets singing/chanting their marching/running songs in call and repeat style.Loud and proud in waves of them criss crossing for the afternoon.
I have included a few more pictures and am pleased to report my camera still works inspite of the strange noises it makes and none the worse for the crash to the pavement with me.
Bye for now my friends,I look forward to seeing you soon. Adios from Chile!
