Seeing these geoglyphs just made the ones at Nazca all the more mysterious to us - they´re just not in the same league.
Iquique is another beach resort, so is again pretty quiet at this time of year. It's even more cosmopolitan than Arica though, and with some great beaches, so I can imagine it would be a great place to holiday in the summer.

Even the winter, though, there was enough to amuse us for a few days, even if we did have to undertake a 12 hour tour one day in Spanish! Despite not understanding anything at all the guide told us, it was still really interesting, taking in an abandoned ghost town, a couple of desert oases, volcanic hot springs and a church housing yet another statue of the Virgin Mary which is claimed to perform miracles.
