Arrived in Santiago around midday on a warm and dusty day.

Weird to arrive on the same day as we took off, after 12 hours wedged between my beloved and a sleeping Puma. Yes, we shared our flight with the Argentinian Rugby Union team, who are actually smaller than they look on TV. Their saving grace might be they look bloody fit..... but rugby in soccer-mad South America? It's the game they play in heaven....

It was a cloudless day coming into town so the Andes were in full show, with a dusting of snow on the peaks. Santiago is close to some of the highest peaks in the range, a few over 5000m, so on a good day you feel like you're snuggled under the mountains. In Santiago, the Andes are constant presence and a point of reference showing east. No wonder Chileanos sleep in, but I'm not sure if this explains why they want to party allnight?

Our reception committee was awesome: 6 Beautiful Chilenas.... enough said.
