34 degrees Hot Hot Hot!! Started out (apparently 54 hrs bus ride to Chile on Thursday 7am....disaster from the word go...we didn’t get on our Cama bus..it wasn’t even semi cama....bit like CIE...for 54 hrs...got to Sao Paulo some 7 hrs later and it was only after everyone complained did they get us a semi cama bus.. the service from Argentina to Brazil..well to the Brazilian border at least was just 2nd to none we thought this would be the same, steak dinner....wine...drinks etc etc...so we didn’t bring a lot of money as we were going through 3 countries and didn’t want to have all that different currency...anyway...it was nothing like what we had in Argentina...no food...no ATMS...so no cash..nothing....but I have to say besides all that we were the only gringos on the bus and by the end of journey we were all one big happy family, chanting on the bus about futball, Brazil being better than Argentina...reminiscing about the Atari (Pack
man...Tetris) ...Nintendo (Sonic the hedgehog)...and I was lost after that..Xbox..playstation?? and all in broken English, there was 2 people on he bus that could speak english, the rest tried extremely hard, funny but endearing!
Got to the Argentinean border and everything seemed to be going ok until 4 hrs later we were still sitting there....then the authorities decided after 4 hrs to take everyone’s bag off and search everything for contraband...and there was lot of it, mainly necklaces...bikinis...jewellery etc...and 5 and a half hrs later we were on our way for about 20 mins..then another stop for another 2 hrs and I’m not joking...for food...at this stage we were not going to make our standby flight to NZ...trying to complain in my broken Spanish to the bus drivers that every dias minutos, el bus parer for dois houras....we have a fekking flight to catch to Novo Zealanda liiike!! I got a nod and that was it..seemed to have worked because all the way there we got like 2 stops for the rest of the journey for 10 minutes, Chilean frontier...all bags off again and everything searched and again they found more bikinis and other stuff, back
on the bus and one of the guys sitting in front of me started to take the aircon above our heads apart...he only stuffed all his silver chains up there and paid Marcela the bus driver to say nothing...they were such a happy bunch, always laughing and smiling even though the bus was hours late, they seemed to take it all in their stride,
Chile...
seeing as we missed our flight we are spending 2 days here, Santiago is lovely, really old buildings, colonial streets... but they have a huge Goth thing going on....what’s with the Goth image...black hair...black eye liner...gothic clothes...its huge..all the school kids are practically Goth, and a grunge hippy thing aswell...I cant say that they look like really happy people, esp. with this Goth thing they have going on, they say its the England of South America, like Argentina is the Paris of South America, everyone though extremely helpful and friendly, blue eyes seem to be non existent as like alot of South America, people seem to be mesmerized by them, one guy said they were like the deep blue sea...how sweet! its always the starter of a conversation...oh your blue eyes....
The city centre was just like being back in the UK, high rise buildings, modern buildings, cafes, restaurants, very English feel to it all. Chilean people love Brazil unlike the Argentineans, its a huge Argentina V Brazil with the 2 countries...they literally hate each other as do all neighbors I guess but not Chile and Brazil.
Haven’t got much to say on Chile as just spent 2 days in Santiago.
SOME PICS OF CHILE So good bye My Latin America...I will miss you soo much...the warmth of the people will forever hold a place in my heart...I will definitely be back.
Onwards to New Zealand..as you all know me and Karen made the flight..Im just getting lazy at getting these blogs out....so for now guys the blogs will be few and far between...I have another 2/3 weeks of travel before I go job hunting here in Windy flamin' Wellington..Faaab city but boy is it windy...no need for hair straighteners here teehee!! or blow dryers I should say...
so its job hunting and apartment hunting although I have to say as usual we have fallen on our feet and got an invite to Xmas BBQ dinner and Gisbon for
the new year...will be the 1st ones to see sunrise of 2007!!!
Merry Xmas All & a Very Happy Happy New Year....Thinking of you all....
