Being February, summer has arrived in South America. It is hot, dry and the wildfires are burning rampantly in the southern part of Chile. A haze of smoke fills the air and as we fly in from Rapa Nui. The views are masked… few mountain tops can be seen. Sad because this normally would quite scenic. But, it’s summer…. We spent a couple of days in Santiago before and after our trip to Rapa Nu... Read Full Entry

Colorful Wall Art

Santiago & Valparaiso
As you know Denise & I love Chile. We found they excel at higher prices than surrounding countries...but the scenery is wow wow wow! Denise would have enjoyed the wines while I enjoyed the beers. Cheers to great memories of your Chilean adventure.

So many picturesque locations in Chile. Amazing streets of wall art.

Hola traveling Binkleys
Wow! I get back on the travelblog site and low and behold, everyone's back traveling! What a journey you have had, Chile sounds wonderful from your perspective, and I'm looking forward to reading more, and carrying on to Quito with you for a bucket list experience in the Galapagos with Brendan, say Hola from me!

Hola traveling Brinkleys
Great hearing from you Andrea. You've been under the radar for a long time. Traveling with Brendan is always a treat. We have a lot to tell about the Galapagos.

Piano Stairs

Love that
Love that idea. Many years ago they had a staicase in Stockholm subway that you could "play piano" on. When you stepped on a step the sound when you hit a piano key was played in a loudspeaker. It had some beneficial health effects actually as the number of people who took the stairs instead of the escalators increased. /Ake

Piano Stairs

Love that
It was a cute staircase. It would have been nice to have the sounds. I can see the health benefits. Very clever.

Santiago
I am looking forward to be heading to Valparaiso one day. I found your thoughts on Santiago interesting. I visited in 2003 and 2020. Neither time did it really grab me as a place I want to stay. Completely different from Buenos Aires a place I really enjoy returning to despite it also having many issues over the years. I hear these cities coupled together so much but they are very different to me.

Santiago
Valparaiso is cute but you won't need a lot of time there. The running theme from people was Santiago wasn't charming like it used to be. I don't find Santiago anything like Buenos Aires which is a lovely town.

Hola!
How interesting to find one’s wine supply and match those spirits with great food! I’ve enjoyed Chilean wine but haven’t heard much about the place or country, as it’s a long way from where I am. Lovely. And the street art scene is fabulous!

Hola
Great hearing from you liliram! Always chasing down those food and wine pairings. Hope your travels continue. Let us know if you will be near us. Street art has elevated in many cities around the world.

Chilean Chunk
I enjoyed my time in Santiago 20 years ago, though I imagine according to your blog it may have changed since then. I didn't make it to Valparaiso, so it's lovely to read about it here - I think I would have enjoyed my time there. Great to be exploring Chilean wine country, I imagine this would make your Chilean wine sampling back home more enjoyable knowing where it comes from. Great that you enjoyed the food there 😊

Chilean Chunk
It is fun to look for wines we've tried once we get back home. Although I'm not sure many of the ones we tried get shipped to the states. Lots of changes in these cities in 20 years.

Chile
We haven't been to Chile yet and based on your blog I think we would enjoy travelling there. I really like the sound of Valparaiso until you mentioned the hills... we like to walk around places we visit, and I can see myself getting grumpy at the hills after a while! :) As always, love the food photos.

Chile
I believe you would enjoy Valparaso even with the hills. They have several funiculars to help go up and down. Chile is diverse and has lots to offer.

Santiago
Interesting to hear your perspective on Santiago, the food pictures tell a different story though :D

Santiago
Santiago was fine and we had a good time. You don't fall in love with every city. It was nice but not our favorite.
