Hi all -

Ian here.
Fine flight over - LAN passed with flying colours.
First surrise was the sight of the southern Andes as we hit the continent well south of Santiago, and had the good fortune to be on the right side of the plane. Magnificent, Rugged peaks and plenty of snow.

Santiago seems to be a great place, and we had our first afternoon off, but Ted, our leader suggested we keep going, so we had a great walk around the city and topped it off with a chairlift ride to the highest close peak for a great vista of the city with its Andean backdrop. Couple of pics to share.

We walked back to the hotel stopping for afternoon drinkies at a local bar.

A good dinner and a full night sleep followed - woken only by a message from Tim (grrrrr) at 3.15 am.

Hotel OK, group seems ok, and Ted is doing a good job so far!

Tim's not the only one.....
I got my first text message from Peter at 4:45 am.... and that's after setting up Santiago time on his language translator! Speaking of which, I imagine Peter is becoming pretty fluent in Spanish by now. Looking at those pints of beer in the photo I can almost guess what his first Spanish phrase was! By the way, tell Peter he's expected to put a photo up now that he's got a new digital SLR ... and not a close-up of hte beers either. John
