Chillán - the earth did not move for me - la tierra no se movía para mí

In Chillán I was quite lucky to get a room as some were even reduced to living on the porches over doorways (see first picture). I tried to speak to these less fortunate tourists but they seemed strangely taciturn. However, they seemed to be making the best of their lot by growing some flowers to cheer themselves up. The housing situation was not just confined to my species and even the dogs were reduced to sleeping in the streets (see second picture).
Chillán is well known as: the site of a devestating earthquake in 1939; the birthplace of Bernard O'Higgings (1778-1842), the founder of the republic of Chile; and the birthplace of the world-famous pianist Claudio Arrau Leon (1903‑1991). Whilst being shown round the Claudio Arrau Leon museum my telling the guide that I had once seen a similar piano got mistranslated as 'I am Eric, the renown British classical pianist on a world tour of the birthplaces of famous figures from the history of the pianoforte'. This unfortunate misunderstanding lead to me giving a concert at the town hall (see last picture) at which I feel I was able to pass off my musical fumblings as atonal works of the Tudor harpsicordists Factotum Waller.
[En Chillán era bastante suerte de conseguir una habitación ya que algunos estaban incluso reducida a vivir en los portales sobre las puertas (ver primera foto). Traté para hablar con estos turistas menos afortunados, pero parecían extrañamente taciturnos. Sin embargo, parecían estar haciendo lo mejor de su suerte por creciendo unas flores a sí mismos el ánimo. La situación de la vivienda no se limiten sólo a mi especie, e incluso los perros se redujeron a durmiendo en las calles (ver segunda imagen).
Chillán es conocida como: el sitio de un terremoto devastador en 1939; el lugar de nacimiento de Bernardo O'Higgins (1778-1842), el fundador de la República de Chile, y el lugar de nacimiento del famosa pianista Claudio Arrau León (1903-1991). Mientras se muestra la vuelta del Claudio Arrau León Museo de la guía de mi diciendo que yo había visto una vez a la piano similares se mal traducido como «yo soy Eric, el prestigio británico pianista de música clásica en una gira mundial de las cunas de los famosos figuras de la historia de la piano. Este desafortunado dar lugar a malentendidos que me da un concierto en el Ayuntamiento (ver última imagen) en el que siento que fue capaz de pasar por mi voy a tiendas musicales como obras atonales de la harpsicordista Tudor, Factotum Waller.]
