An early start this morning, up at 7 for breakfast at Windsor in Rio and check out. At check out we were delighted to find that our rescheduled Mozio airport transfer was waiting for us. We were encouraged to find that he appeared to speak fluent English. Alas, that seemed to be just a well rehersed introductory speech - "Good morning sir, pleased to meet you. Ill be happy to transfer you to the airport". Every subsequent question was answered with "Non comprohendo". Oh well, he seemed a nice fellow, ran fewer cars off the road than standard, and had us to the airport with time to spare.
Check in for our domestic flight from Rio to Iguazu was relatively quick and painless and we boarded our flight on schedule by 10.30am.Alas, a large portion of our flight seemed to consist of an American tour group. Lets just say, as we boarded, few seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as they should, and werent too bashful announcing at random just how dissatisfied they were with, well anything and everything. "Im just fed up, I was on a flight yesterday. I cant believe were sitting at the back, I
like being near the front. We booked this seat months ago" and so forth. Luckily Nat and I were lucky enough to be in row 4 for this one. To our dismay, the flight attendant spotted our friendly nature as an opportunity to allieviate the winge assault she was sustaining from wingy elderly Americans who demanded special treatment. The attendant tried to convey the message to us that "maybe our seat had changed or we could relocate to aisle 36 to accomodate other (precious) people". I confirmed our seats had not changed and we were happy here. Suffice to say our precious friends in Aisle 36 were not.
2 and a half hours later we touched down in Iguazu Falls where we are to embark on a 3 night G Adventures Tour. We were picked up by our tour guide and dropped at our accomodation at Hotel del Rey around 2pm. Just a simple, safe, well reviewed 3 star hotel. From now, 2pm we had the afternoon to wander about and settle in with free time. We strolled down the street to a small zoo, free entry. Whilst a few enclosures were a little small and primative, most the animals seemed
pretty happy. To name a few they had a jaguar, maccaws, small monkeys, coati, turtles and crocodiles. We agreed our favourite was the blue maccaw, who even made an effort to put on a performance for us. In other news, if you ever wandered if turtles get stuck upside down on their shell and cant get up, they do. Its true.
Other than that we strolled up and down the main streets, stopping for icecream and water and juice at the supermarket. I found time to squeeze in half of the Arsenal vs Hull FA Cup replay in perchance before we hit the pool. I was more than happy for Nat to wake me from my poolside snooze to point out a wild bird perched on the rails. A fluro yellow belly and blue mask, made him a handsome fellow.
Aa Im only able to chew pasta just now following surgery, I tripadvisored the best pasta place in town. It was a 15 minute walk through dark, quiet sidestreets, but worth it overall. Im recovering pretty well from surgery just over 24 hours ago. Whilst the procedure (wisdom tooth removal) was way more horrific than last time in Australia, recovery seems to
have been way better? Still sore and a pharmecy of drugs helps, but hopefully Ill be eating steaks in no time. Tomorrow.. the falls!
