It was time to go home. We did not get a good sleep because people were partying the 3 day weekend away for Semana Santa. We awoke at 3 am, got ready, and went down to the lobby for our ride. Our ride should have been there at 4 am. When 4:30 am came and he was still not there, we got ourselves a taxi. We negotiated the same price we would have paid for the other ride, so that was ok. With little traffic, we got to SCL airport quickly. We checked in for our GOL flight to Sao Paulo and went to the gate to wait. Delta has a nonstop from
Santiagoto Atlanta, however, it was full in business class. Spoiled, I know. At just before 8 am, we were on GOL flight 7661, which was a 737-800 aircraft.
I stayed awake long enough to catch the sunrise over the Andes, and eat the meal, and then I went to sleep. We arrived into Sao Paulo just before noon and went to get lunch. We would have about 6 hours until we could check in for our Atlanta flight so we waited. We have really spent too much
time at Sao Paulo airport in the past year, lol!
The time went by fast, and at 9 pm, we were on Delta 104 to Atlanta. It was another 767-300 aircraft, and we cleared for business class. I was in seat 4C and the girls were a row behind in seats 5B and 5C.
The Crew announced that bumpy weather was coming up and that they would need to get the meal service done quickly. Well, it really never was that bad. I ate the lemon rosemary chicken thigh and sides which were very good.
During the meal, I watched "The Big Lebowski" again. I went to sleep after that and slept until just before landing, skipping the breakfast. In fact, all three of us skipped breakfast.
Once in Atlanta, we cleared customs and immigration within 30 minutes. Our next flight to Indy was tight for stand by, but we had back up plans just in case. All the Indy flights were pretty full due to the college basketball championship being held in the city. We ended up getting some of the last seats on the plane, which was Delta 796, an MD-90 aircraft. We were
each in seat D of rows 17, 18, and 19.
The flight was smooth and I slept the entire way. We landed just before 9 am and were home soon after.
In closing, I will say that Iguacu Falls has been one of the most amazing sights I have ever seen. As for Santiago, we read in many guide books, that you only need 2 days there. While I will say that you can see the highlights in 2 days, the city deserves so much more. I think it is a great city. It is safe and modern, and has a European feel to it. It is a wonderful place to go and sit at a sidewalk cafe and people watch. I would return in a heartbeat!
