Day 12-17th September
Another day, the same bus. We were finding it pretty hard going by this point, and to make matters worse, the smell from the toilet at the back of the bus had made its way to the front of the bus where we were. Bad bad times. I spent the last 3 hours of the journey breathing through my fleece and feeling sick. We were very relieved when we eventually arrived in Foz at 12:50! We grabbed our bags, which had made it safely and I then proceeded to have our second random meeting of our trip, if there are any old Highworth girls reading this, I bumped into Miana, turns out she and her sister had been on the same bus as us! 12 days on the road and we’ve already bumped into 2 random people, most strange! We had a brief chat, but we were all pretty tired and not making much sense, so we wished each other happy travels and Ellory and I went off to our hostel.
We’d chosen Katharina House on Rua Taroba and first impressions was that it was very quiet, which was a bit a shock after the rowdy
party hostel we’d come from. However it is very clean and the bed has a duvet! (We got very excited about that) There is also the cutest cocker spaniel called Daisy, who in the Brazilian fashion was sporting a neon green bow in her hair and had star stickers on her forehead. We’d seen a lot of mad dog fashions in Rio (Discovery Channel people-think of ‘Groomer Has It’) and it seemed Foz was no exception!
First on the agenda though was a shower and some food. We were feeling pretty gross after the bus journey and after eating Pringles and biscuits for 24 hours, needed some proper food. We got showered and changed and heading out of the door in search of the nearest food place we could find.....20 metres later we came across a ‘por kilo’ restaurant, which is a bit like a buffet restaurant, however instead of paying a set price and then eating as much as you like, you get your plate weighed and only pay for what you eat. Ellory has a new favourite restaurant! The food was really good and with some caipirinhas we had a fantastic meal. We then headed back to the
hostel for a quick nap.
Later on, we decided it was about time we used another one of our wedding presents. We only had one left for Brazil and Helen and Ian, we did you proud. We settled into the bar at the hostel and proceeded to get rather merry on caipirinhas! There was a group of people sitting nearby and we ended up joining them for more drinks and chat on places to go in South America. A very pleasant evening and an excellent start to our stay in Foz do Iguacu.
Love from
